New Wave Outpost Forum

I think NW had some really bad and cheesy bands who had 1 or maybe 2 hits at the most in most cases and they tend to be bands that were in it just for the fashion or they just sort of jumped on the band wagon cuz NW was happening but their music never really revealed that they were great artists. In my opinion, here are some:

Nu Shooz
Information Society
Transvision Vamp (if they qualify as new wave)

I'm drawing a blank right now but there are many many more.

I liked all three of those bands, no accounting for taste ;^) . I was thinking more along the lines of "Taco".

I like a select few from these bands, but yes I consider them pure cheese.

Well, I liked Transvision Vamp mainly because they WERE cheesey and music had gotten so deadly pretentious by 1988 it was sort of refreshing when they limped on to the scene...and...oh yeah...Wedy James was Uber-Hot! There was that too.

One person's cheese is another's champagne. There's always a place for catchy, funny, and plain stupid stuff. Sometimes it's the cheese that has the best memories attached to it too.
With that said,
I would categorize Taco as limburger.[:D]

I can think of so many, but the crown goes to none other than the kings of cheese themselves.....WHAM! Yep, George Michael is the king of cheese. He's even cheesier than Boy George.

Wait a minute. I've been doing some thinking. Shouldn't half that crown go to Hall & oates. As for new wave. Two really cheesy new wave bands would be Trans X and sigue sigue sputnik. Dig their music though. Still they don't come any where near to as cheesy as wham and hall and oates.

Don't forget about the German kings of cheese Modern Talking.

Now, I am not ripping on the songs / talent level or popularity of any of these but, you have to admit it wasn't about singing to a live mic.

I have to throw Kajagoogoo into this mix. Even their name has cheese written all over it.

I agree with just about all the bands listed but I can't believe no one's listed.....Cory Hart yet. And though not New Wave, I just have to mention Rockwell. Cheesy to the nth power.

I guess it's easy to start calling alot of new Wave bands from the 80's cheesy when you start to look at the early fashions of Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Flock Of Seagulls, etc. Bands like Wang Chung, Intaferon or the Monroes had some pretty darn groovy moment defining tunes and could be considered cheesy but I still love 'em[8D].
