Prior to the release of their "Battleship Potemkin" CD (slated for September 5 [8D]), the Pet Shop Boys and the Dresdner Sinfoniker will be performing "Battleship Potemkin" ("Panzerkreuzer Potemkin") at four concerts in Germany in September.

September 2: Frankfurt Alte Oper
September 3: Bonn Museumsmeile
September 4: Berlin Museumsmeile
September 5: Hamburg Stadtpark

This is pretty darn thrilling, I wish I was in Germany. Any German PSB fans / NWO members around?

Battleship Potamkin is a classic silent film from the 1920's. PSB refreshed it, emphasizing it's modernistic qualities, with a fresh new electronic soundtrack. Technically, it's a film soundtrack but it's all PSB. Click here for some info:

They have a brand new album slated for a Spring 2006 release for which they teamed up with Trevor Horn once again. It should be magnificent. Expect lush and lovely orchestrated rhythms.[8D]

Marv, do you know if it's an instrumental soundtrack or are there any vocal tracks in there?

Hm. Good question. I'm gonna go with instrumental but I really don't know for sure.

I believe that Neil sings on 2 of the 15 tracks.
Although I am a HUGE PSB fan, sadly, I am not looking forward to BP.
I'm much more excited about the 2006 album. The non-Trevor Horn tracks are said to be very elektro [:)]

I once saw Battleship Potemkin with the original score played live by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (oh God am I showing my age) and it is a brilliant film, especially the baby carriage scene that was later stolen and used in The Untouchables.

By the way, are PSB considered NW? I always thought of them as a dance outfit.

Brilliant flick that, the Untouchables. Connery, DeNiro, Costner...good cast.

Anyway, I consider PSB 'disco wave'. A New Wave act that took some cues from the clubs and dancefloors. Check out this brilliant dissertation on the delineations of New Wave. It really is a great guide to the entire genre.

It's a real testament to their creative and business savvy that they never stopped making (relevant) music all through the years.

Neil and Chris are currently working on a new batch of four songs for their next album with producer Trevor Horn, making a total of nine tracks. The latest four are described as "more electro--pop" than the first "epic" five Horn has produced. The Diane Warren composition, "Numb", originally recorded for the "PopArt" compilation and produced by Trevor Horn, will also feature on the new album to be released in Spring, 2006.
