I'm always amazed when I hear this song. I can't believe it was done by Alice Cooper. It goes great with any New Romantic compilation and it can be recorded next to a Buggles song and sound like it belongs there. I wonder if Alice Cooper realized that he writing such an awesome New Wave song?!? I wonder if was intentional or just something that he threw together while he was high or drunk. What a cool song!

Definitely intentional. The whole album, Flush The Fashion, sounds like that. It was Alice's attempt at New Wave, and hired Roy Thomas Baker (The Cars) to produce, just to make sure it had that New Wave sheen. Most New Wave fans agree, "Clones..." is one of the coolest New Wave songs from a non-New Wave artist. Most Alice Cooper fans agree, Flush is one of the worst Alice Cooper albums ever.

Aside from "Clones..." I don't find the rest of the album too memorable.

I heard it on an 80s compilation, and was also blown away. Didn't strike me as a typical Alice Cooper song either, but it's a favorite.

Heh, I also liked "Dead Babies" which I heard last Saturday on the local college station. Fun-ah.

Talk Talk was a bit disappointing. You can hear a bit of Talk talk fadeout in the beginning of Clones, and it gives you the impression of a neato song. But sadly, it's no Clones.

Leave it to me to mention that The Epoxies do a great cover of Clones (We're All)!

I think I heard that on Locust Lecture last weekend.

When I tell people it's Alice Cooper they simply refuse to believe it, even after it's been proven to them.

Roy Thomas Baker also produced Queen. "Bohemian Rhapsody" being the highwater mark in his career, I would imagine.

No matter how you slice it, "Clones" is a gem. Great riff, moves right along, not a boring moment on that single. Loved it the day it came out.

Never got a chance to hear the rest of 'Flush the Fashion'. Oddly, it never turns up in the cheap used bins around here. Either that means people threw out their copies, or Alice fans secretly cherish it.

I listened to the samples of the album over at allmusic. I'd have to agree that the rest of the album isn't as strong as Clones.

I think Alice Cooper's one of those artists who has put out some tremndous & timeless songs, and also has a great span of forgettable music too.
I tend to forgive Alice for whatever though, because he's such a cool, funny and smart guy.
