Most Underrated Song

What do you think is a wholly underrated song from the era, one that didn't turn many heads but deserved its due respect for its sheer glorificence?

I would have to say any song from Nick Heyward's absolutely brilliant album, North of a Miracle, which was completely overlooked and unheard in my neck of the woods.

Also, Feel Me, Blind Vision, and the rest of Blancmange's Happy Families album on this side of the Atlantic.

My wife is a huge Frasier Chorus fan--their latter stuff tended toward trip-hop IMO. "Sue" is a great Sunday morning CD

I wonder if more people know "Will the Wolf Survive" from Waylon Jenning's cover?

The Other Ones only had 1 LP (That I know of) but it's great

I'm with Marie3 on Alone again or. It is that rare animal the cover that is significantly better than the original

Love's Forever Changes is one of the greatest albums in the history of rock and roll. The Damned's cover is faithful, and a rare animal in that is actually a good cover version, but I think Vanian himself would think your nuts for making such a claim.

I never hear much about "Who Does Lisa Like" from Rachel Sweet. I think it's a great overlooked song. It perfectly sums up that angst some of us had as young teens, when there is no bigger world other than what we're experiencing in our narrow teen life:
"People starving in India, Fighting in Bagdad.
We don't care! It's none of our business, besides, we don't dare.
Whoooooo does Lisa Like!!"

Her Protect the Innocent album also had some great power-pop stuff, again overlooked.

It's too bad Stiff tried to market her as some type of Lolita Child Abducter - it didn't do her talent any justice.

No offense intended [:I]. Just one man's opinion. Certainly looking at the number of acts that have covered "Alone Again Or" it must have influenced a lot of musicians. I wonder if, when a band covers a fav of theirs or a large influence on their sound, they ever think their version is better than the original...[?]

It's possible they think it, but I'd think most artists would be smart enough to realize that nothing good could ever come out of making that opinion known. Critics and fans would roast them for such hubris.
Millions of 16-year-olds probably think No Doubt's version of It's My Life is better then the original (if they even know it's a cover), but I really doubt you'd hear the band making that claim.

As for underrated tracks or shoulda-been-hits, I immediately think of a few songs that were "hits" on college radio that should've crossed over:

Yeah, I'm all for putting these tunes out there for public consumption since they were denied their fair shake the first time around.

Again, I gotta give props to the folks at WLIR for having the taste (& stones) to air these trax originally (most of them).

Funny, I remember 'The Visitors' getting just a brief stint on the local Top 40 radio stations then it abruptly vanished..(forever).[V]

I just love the fret work on 'Alone Again Or'.. Simply Gorgeous.

The others were just chance viewings on MTV back when they were a VIDEO MUSIC CHANNEL! [:(!]
