My GF is driving me crazy saying she heard a new wave tune in the 80's that frequently repeated the word "Melancholy" throughout.....it has stumped me for some time and I'm usually good at this....can anyone help???

Could it be Melancholy Rose by Marc Almond?

Perhaps "I Beg Your Pardon" by Kon Kan? The time period (late 80s) and style (pop) are about right. The chorus (sampled from an oldies tune) goes
"Love shouldn't be so melancholy /
Come along and share the good times while we can"

Fun fact: Lynn Anderson's '71 hit, "Rose Garden," was resung by a sound-alike -- not sampled -- on "I Beg Your Pardon." Same thing with "Puss 'N Boots" ("These Boots Are Made For Walking" was resung by a Nancy Sinatra sound-alike). It saved on licensing fees.

Damn! I just played that on my show last week and I said it was a sample. Oh well.

k. d. lang did a cover of "I Beg Your Pardon", and on this particular album ("Angel with a Lariat"), she had a rockabilly sound (most likely due in no small part to the producer, Dave Edmunds). Just thought I'd post this to add to the confusion. [:)]
