I am sure that most of your remember a certain New Wave song called "Lawn Chairs" from around 1980 or so, give or take a year? Well the name of the band who recorded that song was a band by the name of "Our Daughter's Wedding,also affectionately known in some places as ODW.Anyway,how many of you bought any of their records at the time,and how many of you remember this band?

Did you like any of their albums that they recorded? They only did two albums anyway. The first one was actually an EP.I thought that was very good.Now the second one,which was an album,was nowhere near as good as their EP was.Although the single taken from that second album,which was "She Was Someone" was a great song,the rest of the album just seemed way to out of place.The songs did not match up to their EP for one.They just seemed like they were too forced,and not enough time and effort was put into the new batch of new songs.

What do you all think? Did you think that their second album was halfway decent,or like me did you feel like the songs weren't given enough effort,and that most of the new songs seemed to forced,and had much less of a commercial sound? It just seemed to me,like they wanted that second album out in stores right away,and that they wanted to get it done in a hurry for some reason.

I loved ODW! I used to crank up the volume for the drums on "Lawn Chairs" something I always wanted to know. On their second album at the beginning of one of the songs, they had a distotred voice thanking someone who ripped of their equipment or ? and then made a kiss noise.I'd have to dig out my album to find our for sure which it was.What's the story behind that? They had several 12 singles. check it out.

I have the album and a 12", but never heard the EP. 'Auto Music' is great (especially the long version). The rest of the album isn't too memorable though. Maybe it's time for another listen.

Didn't realize there was a 12" version of Lawnchairs, would like to hear that one too.

I don't have a record player now, but I do have it on tape. The 12" 'prairie mix' bears no resemblance to the 7" single version except some vocal snippets taken from it, and is imho one of Tony Mansfield's most adventurous remixes.

I saw them opening up for another band, the Furs I think, and they were awesome. I ran out and picked up their album that had Lawn Chairs, Target for Life, and Dance Floor on it. Fantastic stuff, although I heard very little else from them. Got a huge kick of of them in concert, and wished I'd had more chances to see 'em live.

I remember them! Got to see them live at Hitsville in Passaic, NJ. I think it was a Halloween show.

They were great!

Never saw the fascination with these guys.

They were Long Island guys, so WLIR used to play them all the time. I like the "Digital Cowboy" EP better than the full length "MOving Windows" LP. Although I think that the 45 version of Lawnchairs is better than the one on the EP.

I think I'll digitize that EP soon.

We played ODW @ Sex Dwarf (here in Philly) on Tuesday night! My cohort David has it on vinyl, original in great condition.

I got both "Moving Windows and "Digital Cowboy" and find them very lacklustre. To me they peaked at "Lawnchairs" and nothing else came close.

I saw them live back in 1982. They put on a fun show, everyone danced their tails off! It is a shame they did not last.

Like everything by ODW, especially like the track 'Target For Life' and I believe they played at a small club in upstate New York in 1983, I think I saw them with devildog's older brother???

Grunch, we were all there, even John Jacon. The show was at SUNY student center (I think).

Thanks devildog, you know my memory isn't what it used to be. Now what were we talking about???

Remember The Bongos at that little club on Bridge Street??? Then there was me getting to sit and chat with Natalie Merchant before 10,000 Maniacs were known outside the region, in The Rook, man she was so gorgeous and so nice, we sat after their set, it was winter and freezing out, rememebr the buzzing light sounds outside on Margaret Street when it was freezing cold? We drank beer, talked, and they finally packed up and left. What I would have given to have that night with her!!
