One of the coolest New Wave songs of all times is The Buggles "Elstree". What in the heck is "Elstree"? Is that a person? Is that a robot? Does anyone know? And also, what does the horse riding through at the end of the song have to do with song?

I have no idea who elstree is, or what the hoof-steps represent, but I'm with you - - Elstree is one of my favorite songs of the era.
In my mind, I always thought Elstree was an old woman who used to be a movie star, and the song is being sung by someone who played a part in a B-movie with her, but who never aged himself - he's trying to get her attention but she's non-responsive. Wierd the way the mind works, huh?

Elstree is short for Elstree film studio a very well-known British studio, which is the reason why for all the film references in the song.

Personally, I think it was a bit much releasing it as a FOURTH single from the album.
