Can anyone list some NW bands that tried to revive the mod look and sound? The most obvious one that comes of my mind is of course the Jam. I think Blondie also was pretty mod in fashion and attitude before Parallel Lines, according to what I've read anyway. Can anyone think of more?

...a lot of the so-called "mod-revival" bands were new wave(they didn't have anything in common with blues like the mod bands of the 60's - they were more punk!) - there's some good bands from that period: "secret affair" and "the chords" spring to mind, and "the jags" who were power-pop AND new wave, or "the attractions"(without elvis costello!) on their "mad about the wrong boy" album - which is a damn good album too!

Lets remember;

The Jolt-more mod than new wave in Jam territory
Merton Parkas-obscure first band of Mick Talbot(Style Council),rhythm n blues-mod stuff
Streetband-first group of Paul Young,perhaps more pub rock
Laughing dogs-nice NY band
Secret Affair-Glory boys, a classic one!

..and "the circles", who were good back in the day... me and girlfriend went to see them a few years ago, not as good now... the alchoholic ex-drummer spent the evening staring at girlfriend's legs.
they had a few rousing teenage anthems... most of these bands owed a lot to the jam though.
streetband - paul young's pre-Qtips band had a big hit in the UK with a song about "toast", released during a bread shortage (the good old days).
while we're at it, my favourite band from that period were "makin' time"(one of whom went on to on the charlatans) - good organ based new wave 60's pop!

I actually quite like what I've heard of Purple Hearts.

The Vapors got lumped into that scene.

And I know I've pimped the series before, but for anyone with more than a passing interest in the mod revival/powerpop scene of the late 70's/early 80's showuld really track down the Power Pearls series of LPs.

that first album by "the lambrettas" is great power-pop!
i still dig it out now and then...
i forgot about the vapors!
they were managed by the bass player from "the jam" - and got to tour with them a few times, which is how they ended-up with the mod connection.
a much-maligned style of music though, it was "of the moment" and by the time record-companies started throwing money at bands the time had passed...

Also add The Inmates,an exciting punky mod combo.As for ''toast''from Streetband,its a really quirky song,totally out of connection with the whole album.Those days,Paul still was experimenting...
