I may or may not be the only person who believe that Ministry's first album "With Sympathy" was the best and most concise album the band has ever made. Although critics have dismissed the album as being "too industrial" I personally think the album was wonderful.What really bothers me is not what others beleive about the album but what the band themselves may feel about the album. I know that bands have different feelings about songs and albums and sometimes say to themselves "what the hell was I thinking" but I am also aware that the bands are still somewhat proud with what they have done. I am not sure of this with Ministry.On their album entitled "Greatest Fits", songs from "With Sympathy" are conspicuously missing. Some of the song are on a tribute album which is personally unsatisfying considering the fact that other artist are performing the songs. I believe that a band should acknowledge their work wether believed to be good or bad.It shows growth. Just mentioning the album as apart of the discography is not good enough. I am a fan of most of their music but I feel that a major part of their history is missing.

Yes, they are ashamed. I do know this as fact. I have a relative who was married to Paul Barker in the early 90's, so we have had this discussion many times. Al REALLY hates that he is associated with the Sympathy album, but, hey, what can you do?

There is nothing you can do except rant and rave and hope someone...anyone listens.

Al Jorgensen is completely ashamed of the first Ministry album. He wishes with all his soul that it never happened. I've read interviews with him where he completely disses and dismisses the whole thing. He hates how commercial, pop and dancable it is. He hates how he was manipulated by the industry, by the record label to make a sell out album. He even hates people who like that album. I think he should get over himself but whatever. It's his loss actually.

If he realy hated as much as he claimed then he wouldn't have made it in the first place...I've haerd of people being forced to do things but that is just ridiculous.

VH1: It's been 20 years since Ministry's debut, With Sympathy. When was the last time you listened to it?

Jourgensen: The day I got out of the studio in 1983. I don't own a copy, and I don't want to own a copy. It's one thing to go back listen to our second album Everyday is Halloween, because I was part of the process from top to the bottom. But when you're excluded from the process like I was on that first record, yet your name is on it – you have to answer other people's mail, if you will – it's just not interesting to me.

Al not only blames the whole album on Arista, but has even gone so far as to say that they goaded him into faking a British accent on it.

I guess Ministry's other early stuff is all Wax Trax's fault. Because of course Wax Trax was only in it for the money, you know.

Its a shame that they're ashamed. I liked it!

He should have continued faking the British accent and continued to let them exclude him from the process cause it worked. One of the most awesome debut albums I've ever heard. Too bad he didn't make a few more like it. I would have bought them all.

I was hoping for an eventual re-release/remastered version of "With Sympathy". I guess that is not going to happen...

You never know, it might happen. Since the record making process was more in the hands of the label, maybe this decision will be theirs to make as well. We can only hope.

I didn't get it after reading these posts on both threads for a couple of days - but just now, it occurred to me that the song in the recesses of my mind called "Whaaaaaaaaaat? Fellow!" is actually work for love...
Oh well, I'll go back to my play-doh and safety scissors.

I do like the album, but the part of Revenge that goes "kept on walking down the corridor, YES the corridor, YES the CORRidor" always cracked me up. That must be one important corridor.
