I just read on the alternative tentacles web site that Randy "Biscuit" Turner, former lead singer of the Austin, TX band the Big Boys died 8/19 at the age of 56. For those that don't recall, the Big Boys were one of the most unique & fun bands of the early 80s punk era. They were one of the first to incorporate funk & soul elements into punk rock & actually make it work. I had the chance to see them once in Washington, DC opening for Minor Threat & they made Ian & the boys look absolutely dull. Some 21 years later, they still stand up as one of the best live bands I've ever seen. Anybody not familiar with this band, I'd highly recommended that you check out the two reissues "The Fat Elvis" & "the Skinny Elvis" on Touch & Go records. They have just about everything the band ever recorded. There's also a good rarities comp out called "wreck Collection". You'll excuse me, I'm going to go listen to them now & have a good cry.
