I've got a theory. Remember in "School Of Rock" when Freddy says, "Hey. The Sex Pistols never won anything." This got me to thinking why our music is so excellent. You see, while the American conventional thinking goes for crap like Britney, Christina and the no talent ho/slut people (too many to mame), we on the other hand, know true talent when we hear it. And what's with this Country Pop ick that Shania scoops out?

I think this American lopsided taste meter is why New Wave, Ska and Punk never really reached the status it deserved. Whaddya think?

Definitely more artistic thought process went into alot of New Wave bands. The complete antithesis of American radio friendly, music for the masses, top 40 drivel. Was it underground? GOOD. New Wave was never for the common folk because they never knew how to appreciate it.

It's like Budweiser and microbrewed beer. How do you make a beer that will not offend anyone of the masses? Make it bland, generally tasteless and with zero character. They don't know better anyway. How do you attract a loyal fan base intimate with and appreciative of your product and ready to spend more money for a better product? Cater to their intellect and sophisticated taste level and introduce a unique micro brew which differentiates itself from a crowded marketplace of blah.

I think you hit the nail on the head. How many times have all of us heard the old "I've never heard of it, so it can't be any good " theory? Most people will take whatever crap the radio & MTV feeds them & are too lazy too seek out different music on their own. How else can you explain the popularity of Creed & Linkin Park?
