Hey "evryboday",

I am looking for two songs that I have had an impossible time finding.............Vigilante by Felony and U.F.O. by Caution. Anybody know where you can find these rarities? It's like a quest for the Holy Grail!!

By the way, was The Fanatic released in 81 or 82? Just curious.

I am a young'un, so I am not actually old enough to remember the song when it was new. Although, my uncle was an avid KROQ listener in the late 70s/early 80s. I wish I could have enjoyed that era as a young adult instead of a little brat. Oh well...consider me one of the few 'under 30 somethings' who actually loves and appreciates early 80's new wave!

Well, this poses my next question. Since I was too young to actually listen to my radio whenever I wanted to back in '85 I don't remember the song Vigilante. Does anybody remember it vividly being played endlessly on KROQ back then? Funny how it also failed to make any of their TOP 500 lists dating back to the first one in 1988. I thought I heard a rumour that many people thought ballot stuffing took place at the station by the DJs to get that song at #2.

Blir or DarthBrett: It took me ages to figure out who U.F.O was by even though I used to hear it on KROQ all the time. Any chance you could send me a copy, too?

By the way, Vigilante was #2 on the 1985 KROQ countdown.

It's strange that a song that ranked as high as #2 on the list would end up being almost completely forgotten years later. It is a shame that KROQ has chosen to abandon a huge catalog of songs that made them so interesting back then. I'm hoping one day that all of these great but very obscure songs will be made available by the actual recording companies. I still don't understand why they don't release them now in the digital format age? Anyways, I guess I am rambling now. Thanks for the info, though!

That's the very reason that many of us became fed up with KROQ. It's like the station had turned it's back on the very music and people who made it what it was. Suddenly huge blocks of music became forgotten in favor of crap like Janet Jackson or Video Kids- Woodpeckers from Space. KROQ's glory days for me were 77-82. In 1979 it was possible to hear anything from Yes-Drama to Dickies-Gigantor being played back to back...they played anything.

The thing that always amazed me was how bad radio in L.A. was anywhere else on the dial. Before and after KROQ, radio out here has been a vast desolate wasteland. Only two other stations were as good or better than KROQ- 91x and KCRW but they'd fade out for me at sundown.

You'd think out here in the entertainment hub that things would be better, however ratings have always been so important that many many stations have been playing the same top forty crap.

KROQ was really an anomally. I'm glad I was there.

my dad is Jeffrey Spry the lead singer of felony. Its not very easy finding his music anymore.

<p align="justify">Y-107 played some interesting things in the 90s. Sure, most of it was K-ROQ rejects, but they were the only ones who played a variety of songs by The Smiths, Sparks, and Depeche Mode (other than the same three songs).

WOW! Pretty freakin' cool! Welcome to the boards. [8D]

Looking at the year-end lists 1980-1990. KROQ would play a wide vartiety of songs. Many that were unfairly forgotten. Stuff like the UFO - cation that was already mentioned. Living Daylights - Colleen. Eye Protection - Take Her Where The Boys Are. Private Domain - Don't Need That Much. Ken Heaven - The Calling (anyone familiar. Singer Sounds Like Jimmy Sommerville). The Machinations - Pressure Sway. And Yes, even Woodpeckers From Outer Space.


It's extremely hard to find this stuff anywhere.

I enjoy/ed Felony! They put on a great live show. Saw them at least twice I can remember, once at the Nugget A Go-Go on campus at CSULB, and another time at The Rumble Seat Garage in Long Beach, CA - near the Traffic Circle (of Death) on PCH! [:p]
