WLIR 107.1 soon to be no more

Postby abacab66 » Wed Sep 07, 2005 5:58 am

Just heard news that the entire air staff was fired and the station will be switching formats as of Sept. 15th. Yet another sad day for Long Island radio and alternative music.[V]

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not's not true! That's impossible!!! Then all I'll be left with is Connecticut classic rock. You LI folks were so kind to send those friendly airwaves across the Sound. Sniff. [V]

They never had listenership because no one knew about them. The LIR move was so not publicly known [:(] So sad.....[V]

Nobody heard of the station because my car's headlights pack more power than their signal!

I would catch it two or three times a year when heading out to the North Fork, but its signal doesn't reach Nassau County. I always hoped they would somehow simulcast it thisaways.

TMO's principles seem more interested in politics these days, anyway.

They would have had the listeners if they broadcast from Nassau County! Even when I went out to Coram, I couldn't get new station in on the radio. [:(]

I sure hope that the Moreys are enjoying those $60M pieces of silver they got for betraying LIR's fans in the first place.

When I was out east last month, the first thing I did was try to get WLIR in on the radio. When we were driving and we hit Ronkonoma, I thought for sure I would be about to finally hear it. Nope, the station came in and out but I did get to hear them say "WLIR" and I was excited about that. Oh well. Life goes on.

Oh crap, they've been playing some great new wave all afternoon - that's a certain death knell! It's like when I heard all these Carpenters or Elvis songs back in the day - you knew someone was dead. [V]

Your right! The last couple of hours WLIR 9.27 were on the air were some of the best radio I have ever heard.
