My husband and I were talking about what we call our "guilty pleasure" albums/cds. These are the albums that you own and love but are are afraid to admit you do because someone, somewhere will laugh at you for owning it!!! As a Goth punk in the eighties I walked into a music store practically disguised to buy George Micheal's FAITH cd! I still love the damn thing!!! My club friends worked all over the mall and I was so scared that I would ruin my So called "image"if they saw me leaving the store with this cd! LOL! My husband's guilty pleasure??? The 12 inch single of Gino Vanelli's BLACK CARS!!! Oh God!!! Where's my divorce lawyer!!!

I know this topic has been discussed before, and I'm sure Motors will soon dig up the actual thread/s for us, he's rather good at that.

Nothing wrong with Faith, I like that album a lot.

I think there is some context necessary when discussing guilty pleasures. On this board, for example, no one finds it odd to like Spandau Ballet. To the general population that only knows True, however, Spandau is a sappy 80s cheez ballad band. Never mind that as far as cheezy pop ballads go, True is one of the best.

I don't know, I ramble after a couple glasses of inexpensive wine. Simply Red may be considered a guilty pleasure of mine. I like their ballads - Holding Back The Years, You've Got it, etc. - maybe I just like his voice. Or I could list a whole ton of 70s "soft rock" tunes I like - Amie by Pure Prairie League for example. Fantastic tune. Lowdown by Boz Scaggs. Ventura Highway by America. I like a lot of Paul McCartney's cheezy hits.

Ultimately, who cares, right? If you like it, enjoy it. If someone wants to give you shit for it, fuck 'em.

I think I'll listen to This Love by Maroon 5. Good tune.

I know the feeling though. There have been times when I’ve bought things and am kind of embarrassed to be holding it in line, trying not to let anyone see, hehe.
The sad thing is that I’ve sold all (with the exception of a few) my vinyl and can’t think of anything off the top of my head. I guess maybe I would say the first two Culture Club albums. I don’t have them anymore, but I can remember questioning myself when buying them and being embarrassed. *laughs *

Right now, the only thing that doesn’t really fit in my CD collection that I’m not all that proud of is Nelly Furtado’s “Whoa, Nelly!” Although that album isn’t that great, I just like hanging on to it for some reason.

I have only admitted this to a few,but early 80,s Don Henley stuff is pretty good music.Last worthless evening and Boys of Summer are great songs.And this is coming from a Nashville Pussy fan.

I have Paula Abdul's Shut Up and Dance CD. Mostly, this comes out when margaritas are flowing freely, and one of us starts singing Knocked Up (instead of Knocked Out).

I don't know...my Madonna CDs look kind of funny sitting there with all the Cure, Depeche Mode, New Order-type stuff I love.

My husband, however, finds my huge collection of Fleetwood Mac stuff terribly embarrassing. He's always quick to point out to our guests that those are NOT his.[:D]

Simply Red's Picture Book, A New Flame, and Star are very well-crafted albums IMHO. But even I'll go a year without listening to them with Mick Hucknall being so annoying.
