I think Depeche Mode's Broken Frame is beautiful, Duran Duran's Patrick Nagel art print cover on Rio defines the flashy side of NW for me while debbie harry's Koo Koo is quite disturbing but so artsy. Other ones that come to mind..

XTC's album covers are nice and expressive to me
Kate Bush's covers are horrible to me, the operatic quality of her music is nice in sound but when translated visually, it's almost too cheesy and old fashion for me, but she was really the only one doing that so in that sense she did stand out.

I like The Cars first album... also their 3rd album, Panorama.

~ kind of wish I had chosen Panorama as my screen name on NWO, because of The Cars connection to NW music, and because I'm a photographer. Oh well, guess I shall remain... Dan Coogan.

Dan, you could have your name legally changed to Panorama but I'm afraid "Panorama Photo" might sound too narrow in scope to garner much business. [:D]

I loved the cover of The Dreaming - perfectly suited the music and not her usual crappy cover (i.e., an animal menagerie blowing out from under her dress...while cool, was way too cheesy.

My favorites:
Motels - Motels (Old lady by the 50's style motel)
Berlin - Love Life - so classy looking, film noir feel
B-52s debut album - Looked DIY, like the music
Cars debut - I loved the translucent steering wheel!
Blondie - Parallel Lines - black & white stripes contrasting Deb & the guys standing over them - Deb looking like she's challenging you to come in. Great feel.

Hensoneno - - who the hell were the Bobs? The cover's definitely of that wonderful very-early-80's period; is the record something worth seeking out in the used vinyl bins?

I agree with with Wolvering on the B52's debut - - the epitome of US new wave.

London Calling's cover will always be a favorite, esecially the way they co-opted the Elvis cover and used it for their own (in my mind I always liken it to the way early rap acts took samples and used it for their own).

Devo's Are We Not Men is a pretty classicn US new wave cover as well. Very Kitschy (sp??)....

I think it may have something to do with the starkness of the covers. Anyway, I like them.

The Bob's are kind of an obscure humoresque tongue in cheek A Cappella outfit.
