New Wave Outpost Forum

Well having only been born in 1985 i missed out on what im finding out to be some really good music! I live in london ive started hearing alot more of this stuff!

Im looking for some suggestions for some music to check out.

a few of my favorite songs :

New Order - Blue Monday
Joy Division - Love will Tear us Apart
Nitzer Ebb - Murderous ( Instrumental version really kicks !!! )

I know probably these are probably very obvious to many of you, but thats why im asking so i can find out some more great music!

btw i love the electro/dancy side of things alot!

Hey thanks alot guys! I'm finding most of these tracks on AllOfMp3, i know the internet is supposed to be free but i find getting stuff off there really easy, it should at least get me to the 1GB before i can get on the hub!

(I have 20gb of actual music but no new wave stuff, would that still count?)

I bet it would...we need some variety. It's not all rap and country-western is it??

Theres 1-2 rnb/rap albums, the rest is so varied i couldnt put my finger on it. Theres literally every kind of music in there!

I’m not sure how familiar you are with this genre, and if by reference you mean stuff that is less popular, but here is a list of some of my favorite 80’s/New Wave bands. Most of them are fairly well known.

The Psychedelic Furs

Then there’s the electropop-ish side of things:
Depeche Mode
The Human League
Howard Jones
New Order

As I’ve said, I don’t know if these are bands you already know, but I thought I’d give you a quick list for reference sake just in case.

Also, the bands you listed have a very sort of dark or industrial-ish sound to them. I didn’t get heavy into the industrial scene, but there are a lot of good bands out there that aren’t too hard, and still edgy at the same time while being a touch on the dark side. I’ll list a few of my favorites:

Leather Strip
X Marks the Pedwalk
Nitzer Ebb
Fad Gadget and Ministry (early stuff) aren’t really “industrial” per se but they do have a similar sound. The same goes for Cabaret Voltaire.
Die Form (goth/industrial band)
Clan of Xymox (earlier stuff)

And then there’s the whole Bat Cave/Death Rock/Goth side of the 80’s which is a whole other topic in itself. I hope this list helps you out a little. ;o)

This site is a great place to start; I'd recommend going to a used book store, finding an edition of the Trouser Press Record Guide and keep it near the john. Your knowledge will grow from there....

Douglas McCarthy, the lead singer for [b]Nitzer Ebb[/b], formed Fixmer/McCarthy. Should appeal to Nitzer Ebb fans. Douglas is still an amazing frontman.
