I have a love/hate thing with David Bowie. Like the good little Bowiphile I am, I snatched up all those Ryko reissues in the early 90's and I think "Hours","Heathen" and "Reality" are among the best albums he's ever done. The man's brilliant. No doubt about it. There are a few humiliating things, however, David has done that simply defy reason:
My Top Five:
1. The "Day In Day Out" video: As stated in another thread, Bowie sports a monstrous mullet and rollerskates around Los Angeles. Very disturbing.
2. The "Dancing In The Street" video: At the end of the clip the camera freeze-frames on Bowie's and Jagger's asses. Why? Are they telling us to kiss their asses? Admire their asses? Huh?
3. Coffee Commercial: Bowie sings "Modern Love" and stops to sit at a table, sip a cup of coffee and inform us that he too is a "coffee acheiver". Whatever THAT'S supposed to mean!
4. Bowie Reissues: Bowie put's out his entire catalog on Ryko with nifty bonus tracks and exquiste packaging and then 9 years later releases the same records on Virgin minus all the extras. Thanks.
5. Greatest Hits: Exactly how may Bowie "hits" packages do we need? withinn the past two five years there's been about 10. Maybe this is'nt his fault but then again he DOES control the catalog.
