Can anyone comment on the differences/similaries in these radio stations, specifically when they(the stations0 were in their heyday?
I never heard KROQ, and only heard WLIR sporadically before late 1989.
Listening to some of the tunes on the recent most excellent KROQ-NTT got me thinking. I think there was some overlap in playlists, but I am personnally much too lazy to systematically approach this challenge[8D].
I'd be interested in knowing what songs were extensively played on one station (and not the other) as well as songs in common they played.

I have to go with KROQ,mainly because I'm biased & I live in L.A. [8D].Never heard of that other station.KROQ also was/is home to Rodney Bigenheimer, one of the most influential Radio DJs in the world.Responsible for introducing Punk to L.A. by playing the Ramones & the Sex Pistols records as soon as they were out.As far as playlists, one can look up the Rodney on the Roq compilations for reference.I believe Richard Blade, the famous English DJ from the 80s, has his own compilations out as well.

All good and well, but you haven't read my post. I am soliciting comparisons between the 2 stations. If you can't compare I suqgest you post in the poll that someone else has started.

WLIR: More Ramones

KROQ: More X & Oingo Boingo

This is tough to respond to if you've never heard either. I was in Southern Maine during the early '80's. I picked up WHEB in Portsmouth, NH and WXKS-[i]Kiss 108[/i] in Boston during those days. They were the closest to all-New Wave that we could get in this area.

Did you ever hear WEVO, 89.9 Concord NH? Burt Thomas's Alternating Currents show on Saturday night was the best new wave show ever (no commercials). Better than LIR fer shure![:D]
