Hey, if anyone is nuts about Rachel Sweet like I am (as well as Josie Cotton--who has a new LP soon at her website--and Mari Wilson), her two CBS LPs are coming out as a 2-fer from Collectibles in November. I've waited a long enough time to see these updated for the digital age. However, Josie says on her website that she's making no $$$ from her re-issues on Collectibles. I wonder if Rachel will? Anyway, as long as I have the music on disc I'll leave all the rest up to the lawyers. More later...

I'm a big fan of Rachel Sweet. My favorite album of hers is Protect the Innocent - probably the most new wave sounding of them all. I like her last two lps though - some consistantly good tracks.
I'm looking forward to a digital update!

She made a few videos... including "Everlasting Love," in which she gets married to Rex Smith. I was recently watching her "Seinfeld" episode on DVD -- you know, the "master of your domain" one -- and I think I have her "Hope & Gloria" episodes around somewhere.

She's a writer now. Did a trainwreck vanity sitcom with Mark Burnett (it was vanity because it was about him... it was a trainwreck because it was about him, too) that had one setback after another (including the star breaking his foot and getting fired as a result), ended up leaving the project after shooting two pilots, and then the network pulled the plug without ever airing it. Having gotten a copy of one of the two pilots, I can safely say The WB did the world a great public service.

There's a "Best of" collection available on CD. A lot of her stuff is hard to find digitally.

What pisses me off about finding artists on CD is that inevitably one or more of the songs is going to be an alternate version from the original.

I was excited when I found the Rachel Sweet CD because I wanted a copy of Who Does Lisa Like?. Lo and behold the version on the CD is different than the one on the album. It's not a radical difference but it is just enough to annoy me every time I hear it.

I like Rachel a lot and for years thought I was the only one who remembered her. Glad to see she's still around.

How is it different?

The original version has a keyboard which seems to be totally eliminated from the CD version...if you listen to the CD version when it gets to what should be a keyboard solo it's simply a very lame drum beat that just repeats. It's not like they replaced the keyboard solo with a drum solo.. more like they lost the keyboard.

I like keyboards.

She was also the singing voice of Barbie for a bit and recorded the CD The Look, as Barbie of course.

She also sang the theme song Hairspray for John Water's Hairspray. I've also heard she did the theme to Claissa Explains it All - I guess it's a kid's show.

I'm glad there are some other fans!

Sometimes it's just simply a matter of the analog-to-digital transfer.

I always liked the loud and clear backing harmonies on
"Cuckoo Clock" from the original British release. They're absent from the US version.

Have you checked out the Stiff Records box set that Rhino put out a while back? It has "Who Does Lisa Like?" on it, and while I can't say for sure, I would imagine that that is the version you're looking for. Also, her version of "B-A-B-Y" is also on there.

It's great to hear that her stuff is being released again. I saw her years ago at the Bottom Line in NYC, with the Rockats opening (I believe this was back in 1979). She put on an enjoyable show.

I just listened to the version in the Stiff box. It's all guitar, talk, love... and drums.

By the way, who does Lisa like? It's not a chick, is it?
