I tuned in to this movie near it's end last night on Showtime Showcase. It is a documentary on Rodney of KROQ. It was made in 2003, but I'm not sure if it's been on cable before.

Pretty cool flick. Rodney came across as a really lonely guy. He's certainly left his mark on the LA scene forever.

I watched this flick again tonight. It is definitely happysad and Rodney is definitely happysad. None of us could imagine encountering all those music greats from Bowie to today's stars, yet it's amazing that Rodney's still soldiering on, just scracthing out a living as a fringe new music DJ on at 12-2am on Sundays, never having really made any fortune.

The way he, his compatriots, and the artists of the day talk about their love for music seems to stand in stark contrast to today's absolute shit on the radio. Big music was always about big money I guess, but watching this movie again just makes me wanna say FUCK YOU to the big labels and to the RIAA. I almost hope the internet burns their whole bloated fucking house down, and we get back to innovation, art, whatever you want to call it, whatever it was that seemed to make the late 70s and early 80s special.

It made my stomach turn to see Korn and all the other shit KROQ was caught playing in the movie and to see that bastard Jed the Fish smugly presiding over the bullshit shell of KROQ. SICKENING! A COMPLETE BASTARDIZATION OF THE ROQ!!! IRRELEVANT CORPORATE SHIT!!!! [heh, I haven't even had a drop to drink tonight - just a little sad and bitter I guess]

A can't-miss flick though. My only dissapointment was that they didn't play Rodney's signature intro tune anywhere in the movie! WTF?! So here it is for everyone that remembers those magical notes that started all those great 80s Saturday night Rodney on the Roq shows - The Modern Folk Quartet's "This Could Be the Night":
