I was just reminded of this:
Ricky Wilson, from the B-52's, left us 20 years ago today.
And the band was never the same.

Awwwww. [:(]
There was a doco on VH-1 a while back about AIDS in celebrity culture, and Cindy was on there talking about Ricky's passing. It was heartbreaking. She mentioned that it all happened so quickly. He kept it a secret until the very end and she never got a proper chance to say goodbye. I think they last spoke to each other on the phone.

I remember reading about Ricky's passing in Rolling Stone magazine and being very shocked and upset. The article said that he had died of cancer. It was a big stigma back then to have AIDS(people were extremely ignorant about the disease at the time), so that may have been why his true condition was kept a secret. Later, the band became active in HIV and AIDS causes. I still feel sad when I see the album covers where he seemed so healthy and young. He was a big part of the B-52s uniqueness.

The first song I heard after hearing of his passing was She Brakes For Rainbows so I always feel melancholy when I hear that song. Hard to believe it was that long ago.
