My 13-year-old daughter is about as hooked on the early 1980's music scene as most of us are. We go to concerts (X, Siouxsie and The Banshees, Go-Go's and whatever else we find).
Her taste in music is a little different from mine (she likes the harder stuff) but for the most part it is pretty close. She is also really interested in what the 1980's were REALLY like. [:D]

In thinking back, I can't even conceive of liking my parents music (1940's swing) at that age. So I ask, what's different? It's also spreading to her friends as well as she is burning them CDs from my collection and they all pass them around between each other. Her and her clique almost totally reject anything that is current as well.

I was wondering if this is unusual or if you see it in your kids as well?

I don't have any kids, but judging from her reactions, my cat likes Elvis Costello and hates ZZ Top. [:)]

My 12 year old went to school this morning in his Ramones t-shirt. Tomorrow might be The Clash. That or the shirt that reads "Some mornings it's not worth fighting the clowns under my bed."

No kids in my life so maybe I can't say...

What I do remember is that when I was in high school (82-86) there were a ton of kids into the 60's hippy rock scene, Greatful Dead et al. It's probably the same with kids today, always looking 20 years back.
