Please be careful what new wave songs you expose your kids to.

Pre-schooler singing along to Living By Numbers by New Muzik while he plays - COOL!

Breaking into "everybody wang chung tonight" at the mall - NOT SO COOL!

I've had that happen before, too, my kids singing new wave lyrics that I never really thought about but just played the music around them. I remember one of my daughters singing,"Video Killed the Radio Star" at a family gathering when she was around 3. My other daughter sang Erasure songs at preschool while she was coloring. None of these were really as bad as when my oldest daughter sang the lyrics to "The Potty Song"from the Once Upon a Potty video(not NW, just a kid song for potty training)in a crowded college bookstore.[:I]

Anything wrong with turning Japanese? I remember my mother singing that until I explained what it meant....she doesn't sing that one anymore in public. So it works both ways as far as age goes.

Ah, alright. Wait, what about "Lemon Incest?" Is that okay? I mean, I figure that one's safe for the kiddies, because Serge Gainsbourg sang it to his young daughter.

Blister in the Sun is a good one too. Heck, I used to sing that one out loud too until I realized just what they were singing about.[:I]

I better go look up these lyrics you guys just mentioned. My husband asked me recently about the lyrics to "Turning Japanese" meant, and I had no idea what he meant.

You won't find the meaning in the lyrics. Turning Japanese refers to the face one makes when performing a certain solo act. The singer misses his girlfriend but he has a picture of her so he's "turning Japanese".

Well I would,nt think new wave songs are in the same catagorie as gangsta rap.Hell my kids probably heard Star,Star by the Stones numerous times,but I don,t think they sang it at a mall.

My kids have done that too me too!
