I dunno about this list, but it's worth a look. I'll make some alt picks in brackets...

Once Around the Block - Badly Drawn Boy - The Hour of Bewilderbeast
[Magic in the Air from the same album is way better]
Girl - Beck - Guero
[Debra from Midnight Vultures - hilarious]
All Is Full of Love - Björk - Homogenic
Sea of Love - Cat Power - The Covers Record
Love Song - The Cure - Mixed Up
[Letter to Elise!!!]
Punk Rock Girl - The Dead Milkmen - Beelzebubba
Lips Like Sugar (Album Version) - Echo And The Bunnymen - Echo & The Bunnymen
[Ian McCullogh's September Song cover?]
Do You Realize? - The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots
Classic Girl - Jane's Addiction - Ritual de Lo Habitual
Just Like Honey - The Jesus & Mary Chain - Psychocandy
[Sometimes Always with Hope Sandoval]
Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division - Permanent
[what's there to say!]
100 - 000 Fireflies - The Magnetic Fields - The Wayward Bus / Distant Plastic Trees
Girlfriend - Matthew Sweet - Girlfriend
In a Funny Way - Mercury Rev - The Secret Migration (Bonus Tracks)
About a Girl - Nirvana - Bleach
Wonderwall - Oasis - (What's the Story) Morning Glory?
[Don't Go Away]
Too Young - Phoenix - United
Gigantic - Pixies - Surfer Rosa
[it's obvious but Here Comes Your Man is tough to beat]
Such Great Heights - The Postal Service - Give Up
[Clark Gable from same album if better imho]
You Are the Everything - R.E.M. - Green
[again obvious but The One I Love?!]
I Will Dare - The Replacements - Let It Be (Remastered)
[I'll Be You is pretty unbashedly hopeless/hapless]
New Slang - The Shins - Oh - Inverted World
Modern Girl - Sleater-Kinney - The Woods
We're Going to Be Friends - The White Stripes - White Blood Cells
[Fell in Love with a Girl??]
Maps - Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fever to Tell

Other picks I might make with that "Indie" feel, mostly 90s tracks...

Afternoon in Bed - The Bats - Couchmaster
To The End - Blur - Parklife
See a Little Light - Bob Mould - Workbook
Lovefool - Cardigans - First Band on the Moon
Black Mettalic - Catherine Wheel - Ferment
I Had to Say This - Clientele - Suburban Light
Run - Collective Soul - Dosage
A Girl Like You - Edwyn Collins - Gorgeous George
Hey Jealousy - Gin Blossoms
There She Goes - The LA's - The LA's
Into Your Arms - The Lemonheads
Pure - The Lightning Seeds
Flowers in December - Mazzy Star - Among My Swan
Sometimes - My Bloody Valentine
Hazey Jane 1 - Nick Drake - Bryter Layter
Creep - Radiohead - Pablo Honey [yeah, to me it's kind of a love song!]
Mary - Scissor Sisters
Perfect - Smashing Pumpkins - Adore
Here's Where the Story Ends - Sundays - Reading Writing & Arithmetic
All I Want - Toad the Wet Sprocket - Fear

Oh wait, I forgot that There She goes is about heroin not love...well, love of heroin I guess.

I like your list better, Blir. I also llke Matthew Sweet's "I've Been Waiting" better than "Girlfriend". How about The Foo Fighters' "Big Me"?

That's because you're "just a socal chick who grew up listening to the World Famous KROQ fm 106.7"...you necessarily have great taste. [:I]

But yeah, I totally neglected Luna. I knew a few songs but Otters really turned me on to a bunch more stuff over a year ago. Lot's of great stuff from early 90s to just last year. I like Lovedust okay, but Slash Your Tires from their original Lunapark - definately! It starts of very reminiscent of Morrissey's recent "First of the Gang of Die". Love their semi-acoustic guitar sound, kinda Badly Drawn Boy meets Beck meets Bob Mould on some stuff. Malibu Love Nest makes me miss the Southland.

Most songs in the list are my fav. But i would've add Jane's Addiction's 'Obvious 'from the same album too.
