Hi,
geeesh, I tell my sons about you and the High quality programming you brought to KYYX back in the day. I swear, you profoundly influenced me and the direction i took in music. My sons totally love the rezillo's as a direct result of you, as well as the surf punks and ramones.. and many more. (well, I sorta turned em onto the ramones... ) but Now.. they have a band, and rock. it would be so cool to just hear from you and what you are up to now. You even played a song on the all local music thing that KYYX did of me and my brothers band back in the early 80's called bagladies by the Numbskulz.. which i handed down to my sons____ the band name numbskulz. Incidentally, their website is www.numbskulz.com. anyway, i thought i would do search for you because you obviously had impeccable taste in music. hope to hear from you someday. It was always a pleasure to listen to your show.
sincerely-
Jon

ZZZZzzzzzzz...uhhh...umm...YAWN...uhhh...did somebody turn the lights on? Do I have my clothes on? Where are my teeth? Where is my hearing aid? Will you help me sift the flour to make the dough?

Um, oh yes...how old are your sons? Did you watch much Three Stooges as a child or did your parents punish you by pushing your head into vats of ice water when you were very, very bad?

(So many questions...)

Actually, I probably still have you tape - I have kept most of them. Hundreds. Funny thing, I send an email to EMP every other year or so, saying: "Hey, I have a bunch of tapes. Who the foo-foo knows who's on these things? Maybe there's someone 'famous' like Slim Whitman or Dick Cheney or an early/rare/acoustic Sponge Bob are on one of them? Did Kurt send one in? I dunno..."

But for some odd reason I never hear back from them. Ever. Maybe they've seen those recent photos of me in the Post Office. Or maybe they never heard "Flying Saucer Attack" or "Locals Only" or "Bag Ladies."

(What is an EMP anyway? Misspelled AMP, IMP, UMP?)

Okay, you said you wanted to hear from me (tell your kids to put their hands over their ears, please):

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

Hear that?

My 7 and 10-year-old boys love The Ramones. Actually, when my 7-year old was 5 he went wild for White Stripes. Now he's into Gorillaz thanks to his 10-year-old brother (who is way into The Beatles as well).

They both love The Modern Lovers, They Might Be Giants and their favorite movie of all time is "Napoleon Dynamite" (must be that Big In Japan song) although they have seen "School of Rock" and "Sholin Soccer" maybe a dozen times each.

Okay, it's time for my nurse to take me out for my daily walk and then a big bowl of mashed prunes...It's been nice chatting with you. Thank you for the kind thoughts - my only interest in being on the radio was to make people smile and to turn them on to new ideas (like, um, supporting true home-grown music).

Back to bed...Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz jjoudra jao autjr;werkaqbgo mlm.mgm

Hi again - I just remembered to look at your website. I hadn't checked it out before I responded last night...Little did I know that you are what James Brown would call a...um...wait...I almost have it...some sort of machine...washing? Bread making? ATM?

How many kids have you produced, exactly? (Your wife is my new hero!)

Which podcast features the band? I'd very much like to hear them. Actually I'd be happy to hear anything. Ehh? What's that buzzing? Where is my portapotty? Is it time for dinner yet?

Warm regards - SR

Stephen Rabow,
you rock.
I remember your/KYYX's "LOcal Heroes and New Faces" tape fondly. I played it for years and made everybody I knew listen to it. It finally gave out in 1992, grandly spewing tape everywhere. You & KYYX were amazing at getting out the local sounds. That was one of the coolest things about you!

Perhaps I may have been just a teensy-weensy ahead of things - it seemed natural (to me, at least) to open up the airwaves to everyone, rather than just to play DJ and "dictacte" what was cool, or not. In those ancient times the concept of playing hours and hours of local tapes was extremely radical. (I was such a trouble maker: Format? What's that??)

Today it would all be very tame, a "Local Tape Extravaganza" would be seen as a possible "ratings gimmick."

Everything is so different now, in some ways better (more music choices thanks to the 'Net) but in other ways not (loss of a "sense of community.")

Semi-sweet.

I apologize - THIS board is a (pick one: wonderful, marvelous, elevated, fluffy, contagious) community. Truly, NWO is an example of what makes the www so wow-wow-wow. But you knew that already.

Okay, the nurse is telling me I'm spending too much time indoors...where is my collection of stale bread...I have to go feed the ducks...where are my teeth...mmoruuoouphgghh...
