The Cars - You're All I've Got Tonight

I've listened to this song a million times and it's still a favorite 27 years later -- I have a question though... Has anyone else noticed this in the song -- put the cd in your cd player of computer and hit play -- at the 3:35 mark in the song I hear (underlying the guitar) a very faint version of the same 12 distinctive notes that come in at 3:43.

...can anyone else here this or am I just crazy?

Also, does anyone remember anything about the cover model for the 1st cars album?

I recall she died a few years ago -- I think she was Russian as well.

You may be crazy...I wondering, not to be insulting, even if the notes do come in then...so what? LOL...I picture you like a madman playing the song over and over with your ear pressed against the speakers yelling, "there it is again, do you hear?!"

And yes the cover model died a year or two ago...I can't remember why and I can't find any mention of her on the net. But I tend to notice when a former fantasy of mine slips the surly bonds.

And by the way if you listen to the original Love Rollercoaster you can hear a woman being killed outside the studio as she plays those same 12 distinctive notes...weird but true.

We'll yes, "so what" I guess, but I just find so much layering in The Cars music, I wondered if anyone else ever noticed this.

Just found this -- looks like she died Feb 3, 2003 -- and 44 is way to young...

Natalya Medvedeva - Russian model, poet, writer and musician who emigrated to the U.S. in the 1970’s where she posed for playboy and for the cover of The Cars 1978 debut album, but who returned to the U.S.S.R. where she became a poet and novelist, died Feb. 3 in Moscow of a reported heart attack at age 44.

I'm just busting your chops pal.

I was a big cars fan and saw every concert they did except for the first album when they opened for Styx.

I used to sit at night with my head between the speakers and listen to their albums just for such little touches. Their first album was brilliant and remains a favorite to this day.

As for Natalya I'll have to find out what issue of Playboy she was in!!

That is an accidental effect called "Tape Print Through". It happens when either the analog master tape or the analog 2" session tape is recorded with a "hot" enough signal for that signal to "bleed" through to another layer of the tape when the tape is stored on a reel.

Doesn't happen much anymore due to the use of computer recording, although analog tape is still used for tracking sometimes.

Okay Dan there you go. it's an actual effect.

I owe you an apology for mocking you.

But for real though, the Love Rollercoaster thing is true. My sister friends father's mom knew this guy who's sister's cousin's friend's brother met this guy who wasn't there but says he's knows for a fact it is true.[:0]
