Were does the version that starts out slow and dirgelike come from? Soundtrack? Live album? B-side? I'd never heard it until recently.

Sounds like you're refering to the soundtrack version (much better than the Bowie single IMHO) - classic Giorgio Moroder. [8D]

That's one's of those songs that seems to have dozens of versions...and good luck finding the one you want!

I gave up. LOL...I have two already and their STILL not the one I wanted.

It could also be "The Myth", which is also on the soundtrack. It's basically an instrumental version, with Bowie humming the melody but not actually singing.

Maybe this is from the movie with Nastasja Kinski. I think the movie came out before "Let's Dance". I like the slow version. It's a great showcase for Bowie's voice. Is the movie any good? Ms. Kinski looks hot on the poster.

Yes, it's from the movie soundtrack. The movie is only so-so, but the soundtrack is excellent Moroder electronica.

I have the soundtrack, if you're interested.

Thanks. I've got the song. I just didn't know where it came from.

I have ONLY heard the version that starts out slow and dirge-y, then kicks in with the jammin' music. I didn't know there were others? Anyway, I LOVE this song! It was one of the 1st Bowie songs I'd heard, and I took to it instantly. This version, the one that starts out slow and dirge-y, is on his 2-CD Greatest Hits comp.
