Do any of you have any memories relating to... ?

I'm seeking you, the New Wave Outpost devoted massive, out for some major assistance that will very much be appreciated.

I'm about to undergo a project relating to the obscure '80s New Wave band known as Language, who were most noted for the songs "Touch The Radio Dance" and "Goodbye Indian Summer". I've seen one thread about them on the "Where are they now?" board, but I feel like I can garner more attention on this board for what I'm about to inquire about.

So, to make a long story short, here's what I want: I want YOUR recollections about the group Language. Any recollections will do, from where you heard the group in the '80s to your feelings on how the group was received back ca. 1983 - 1984. Any rememberances will definitely be appreciated, but it will help me out SO MUCH if you had things like press article clippings, music reviews, and the like. But, as I said before, it would be a major help to me if you could just give me your recollections.

You may choose to share on this thread, or you may choose to email me with your submissions. I will be absolutely certain to credit you. Email address is newromantic [at] gmail [dot] com (obv with the proper punctuation signs). Please, I need your help! I will revisit this thread once my project nears completion so I can unveil it to you.

Once again, the group I'm seeking your personal-style information on is Language!

Hadn't heard of them until I got on this site. Good stuff, but no 80's memories of them.

Sorry Deanna,

I don't remember them. I grew up in L.A. in the 80's. Where do they hail from? Maybe if i heard them?

The only thing I remember is that I probably saw the album for sale in somewhere in New England way back when. But I don't think I've actually heard their music.

Hey Deanna!
I did buy the 1983, 5-song EP that included the song "Touch the Radio Dance". I had heard it at the Meadowbrook Club and liked it. It wasn't a big hit with anybody that I knew. Didn't see much about them anywhere. No videos, didn't catch any PR. Not too much else to say about them. But you got me to take out the vinyl and put it on the turntable again. Thanks! [:)]John
PS. Why did you choose Language as the subject of your project?

Um... I remember seeing the "Touch the Radio Dance" video once on MTV in early 1984. I thought it was just about the worst song I had ever heard.

Sorry, I'm guessing that wasn't quite the recollection you were looking for.

scramjet: So you discovered them the way *I* discovered them! Cool.

ben_at_work: Language was a British group, headquartered in London. I don't know where they would've been more popular or "known". After finding out what I've found out about the band personnel, I feel that their associations and offshoots would be more well known. And even *I* remember/know well the Fairground Attraction song "Perfect", which features former Language backup singer Eddi Reader on lead vocals, and I was less than 10 yrs old when that was released.

geoffolehane: That's perfectly ok. Thanks for trying to help out as much as you can.

elektrikblu: OMG, thank you! This is exactly the kind of help I was looking for! Now -- this would be the Meadowbrook Club in Saratoga, NY? I got that as a Google result and am wondering if that is the same club you're talking about. Um, mind if I quote and credit you?

And the reason why I decided to choose Language for my project is because Language has become my favorite obscure '80s New Wave group. This is really a labor of love and fandom. And it's a multitiered project, too; please pardon me for being vague at this point but I really don't want to publicly reveal anything until everything's as complete as I'd like for it to be. However, if you want details, you can email me at newromantic [at] gmail [dot] com and I'd be happy to share.

SomebodySomewhere: It's perfectly fine. We're all entitled to differences in opinion, and besides, who knows what I would've thought had I first listened to this group when they were a going concern.
