Yaz- situation and Macarena connection

Postby Mkx91 » Mon Nov 07, 2005 11:36 am

A little while ago i was listening to the song situation and found something interesting.... In the beggining of the song situation you hear an echoed laugh. well that same laugh sound is in the song The Macarena. If you listen to both songs you will hear it. Just decided to drop by and share this with yah

Yes they ripped off Alisons laugh!
It's been used in many remixes too.

I don't think sarcasm reads too well in print.

Also, I'm pretty sure that the same sample was used in the S'Express theme.

Yaz also sampled it. It's from Michael Jackson's "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" (I believe).

Sorry, I realize I wasn't too clear on this. I meant to say the laugh has also appeared on a Michael Jackson 12"...I believe it may have been "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" but I could be wrong.

But didn't "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" come out AFTER "Situation"?

LovePlusOne asks:

"But didn't "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" come out AFTER "Situation"?"

They were both released the same year. I don't recall ever hearing that infamous laugh in any version of "Startin' Somethin'"

I've had email conversations this week with Eugenio, a Yazoo webmaster in spain. He assures me that the original laugh is Alf's.

Should My Aural Stimulator be on this board if he thinks Yaz stole something from the guys who did the "Macarena"? One predates the other like 15 yrs or so. This laughed has been sampled by so many artists since Yaz came out with their version and it sounds like Alison Moyet's own laugh to me. Any claim of this laugh to Michael's credit is new to me.

Friend -

I was being a smart ass. I apologize if it was taken the wrong way. Of course I recognize that laugh anywhere; it has become ubiquitous in sampling.

BTW, of course I belong on this board! [:)]
