Interviewing Gary Barnacle from Leisure Process

Hi gang,

Next Tuesday I'm meeting up with Gary to interview him about his time in the band.

The interview will be recorded and a copy will be made available afterwards.

Below are the questions I going to ask him but are there any more that you want to ask him?



1. How did the band form?
2. How was the name of the band chosen?
3. Why did you choose the style of music?
4. How was it decided for Ross to be the singer?
5. Where did you perform your first gig? If not applicable
please got to Q9.


6. What was the reaction?
7. What song went down well when gigging?
8. What songs were unpopular when gigging?
9. Did you ever play abroad? If not please go to Q12.



What were your favourite place to play in:-

10a. The UK?
10b. Europe?
10c. Rest of the World?
10d. And why?



What were your least favourite places to play in:-

11a. The UK?
11b. Europe?
11c. Rest of the world
11d. And why?

12. How did you get your record deal
14. Why did you choose that particular label?
15. How were the singles chosen?
16. Did you have to fit the recording of the tracks around anything?
17. How did the association with Mark King and Level 42 come about?
18. Were any tracks left out? If so, why?
19. Which were your favourite/least favourite tracks?


20. What promotional work did you and Ross do for the singless?

21. What did you and Ross think of the reviews (TV, mag, etc.) for
the singles?


22. How well did the singles do in Europe/America/Rest of the World
and what was the reaction to them?


23. Were you surprised when Anxiety and A Way You'll Never Be
failed to chart in the UK?

24. What What was the public and other musicians' reaction to the
band's releases?

25. Where there any plans to record a video, and if so for which song/s?

26. Who was the director?
27. Who decided on the theme of the video?
28. Where they available on any compilations?
29. Where they viewed on any TV channels?


30. What was the process of the break up of the band?
31. Did you have a day job during the band?
32. What did you do after the breakup?
33. (saved to the end) What are you and Ross now doing?

Gary Barnacle was also in Visage right? Ask him what he thinks of Beat Boy ;-)

Also Steve Barnacle was a band member as well; be interesting to find out which Barnacle wrote the songs. :)

I would love to know why Leisure Process's album that was planned for release never was, and if there are any plans for a CD release of it perhaps, or even if their singles (A and B sides) are planned for a CD compilation. Also, does Gary still keep in touch with Ross and what is he up to these days?
