an odd recollection from the 80's.

The first time I heard Laurie Andersons "Oh Superman" was also the first time I heard Trio's "DA Da Da". The DJ on whatever station it was--maybe WSMU or WJMF--played both songs at the same time.

Also--first time I heard REM'S "Losing My Religion" the DJ ON-wbru?-loved it so much she played it two times consecutivly--it had just benn released.

The first time I heard "O' Supermman" was when I saw the video on Nightflight right after it was released nad I had to have it.Same with trio did the version you see make any sense? the one I recall had the guys cutting corn down with a guitar (I think) but it was during my party years and some things in reality weren't what really transpired.

First time I heard Soft Cell's Tainted Love was on KROQ coming back late from a high school football game. It was quite a contrast to the testoserone...I just wanted to groove and dance.

The first time I heard "Pictures on a String" by the Comateens was on a friend's radio show and he played it right after "Love Is the Drug" by Roxy Music. My roommate recorded the program on a cassette. I listened to that tape a zillion times, with Love is the Drug always followed by Pictures on a String. So now, whenever I hear LITD, I EXPECT POAS to come next.

Pictures on a String haunted me for years. Funny, though, that I never knew what artist performed it (that information never made it onto the tape), and it took me twenty years to find out it was the Comateens and to get that song from somebody here at the Outpost. [:D]
