Blondie to be Inducted into RnR Hall of Fame

I'm happily suprised! Blondie is going to be inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame.

I'm suprised because it's their first year being nominated, but deservedly so in my eyes. I'm happy that respect for the band has grown in the last few years.
The Sex Pistols will also be inducted.

That is GREAT news! I thought they should have been the first NW/Punk band to be inducted but it's nice to know that they got in on their first try! Makes me wonder if they would have made it if the band was nominated in the first year they were eligible.

Blondie--It's about freaking time! Good for them.
Sex Pistols--Groundbreaking and influential, but not exactly my favorite.
Black Sabbath--Ditto.
Lynyrd Skynyrd--Eew. This one makes my asshole pucker.

About friggin time!
We're now well into the Punk and touching on the NW acts.
Gonna be interesting to see those bands we know and love vying for a spot to get in!

Well next it has been 25 years since 1980, so a lot of early 80s acts will be coming into eligibility (e.g.Depeche Mode).
And of course there are still 70s acts that are deserving (Joy Division/New Order, Patti Smith, Television).

I think Patti Smith and/or Patti Smith Group has been nominated each year for a few years now. I wonder why she hasn't gotten in?

I would say relative lack of commercial success. From the Patti Smith mailing list:

the average person who Patti Smith is, and 90% of people will look at you with a blank stare, 6% will mumble something about "I am the warrior" and the other 4% may have at least heard of her.
