Vinyl, flexidisc, 8-track, cassette, Sony-DAT, CD, MP3s, Dual-Disc, ATRAC3 Plus. It keeps happening; new media formats are in development all the time. Everyday it seems there's a new way to listen to a song. Sony just launched the new "Bean", which uses a proprietary ATRAC3 Plus format but also plays mp3s. How many music formats do you have of any one favorite album since it was released?

The most I have is four,(3)the Vinyll, cassette and cd of Kraftwerk's Man Machine. I also have several doubled up on cassette & cd, and a quadruple copy of Parliament(Mothership Connection)on cassette, Vinyll, cd and 8-track(really) I'm not proud of it.

I have the vinyl, cassette, CD of David Bowie/ Low and I feel like I'm getting off the format treadmill. Dual Disc? Does anyone remember in "The Man Who Fell to Earth" when David Bowie plays music by inserting a small glass sphere into a player. Is that next[?]

DVDPlus/DualDisc isn't that bad. It's a good way for the labels to give more value to the product. They ones I've picked up were only a couple of dollars more than the CD-DA release.

I have the self titled first album by "The Producers" on vinyl, cassette tape and mp3.

If you count the various "compliation cd's" then I likely have many individual songs on vinyl, tape, CD and mp3.

The Cars: Candy-O and Panorama on 8-track, vinyl, cassette, cd and mp3.

Many more on vinyl, cassette, cd and mp3. Many more just on mp3 in the past 5 years.

That is a fascinating topic that has always interested me. I am continually amazed at how musical formats are constantly changing. And it keeps going on, never stopping! It's like, you collect your music in one format, and just when you've got what you want--bam! A whole new format comes around. Yet, there are enough of us music fans out there who put up with it.
Duran Duran's [i]RIO[/i] is the only music for me of which I had 6 formats--vinyl, cassette, flexi-disc, CD, mp3, and....(prepare to laugh!) reel-to-reel !!
I'm not kidding about the Reel-to-reel. My dad, who was also a bit of an audiophile with his 50s & 60s music, had a reel-to-reel of which he was so proud, until he got sick of its bulk. Anyway, before I ever had the cassette of [i]RIO[/i], a friend of mine lent me the LP, and Pop thought it would be a unique gift to put on reel-to-reel. He was so proud! It was, of course, the only reel-to-reel I owned.
I just realized I never had this on 8-track...that would be quite a feather in the cap!

I have a lot of [b]David Bowie[/b]'s 1970's stuff on vinyl, cassette, and CD. Very soon I expect I'll purchase the Bowie Best Of...DVD set, which has been out about two years. I just haven't gotten around the buying it.
