I see not many here are familiar with The new imposed lead singer, Todd Rundgren. Get familiar with some of his history before making any negative judgements. This is going to be a fun tour, without a doubt!

Actually Todd Rundgren seems like a good choice if Ric Ocasek won't participate, but with Ben Orr gone it's going to be an uphill battle. Regardless, I'm certainly interested in hearing the new lineup.

I think Todd Rundgren is well-known on this board. "Time Heals" and "Feet Don't Fail Me Now" were staples on MTV in their day. He's also produced a ton of songs, from Meatloaf to the New York Dolls to XTC.
If Ben were alive and was touring with the Cars, I'd say that Todd was a good choice to replace Ric. But with neither Ben nor Ric, it's a big freakin' "who cares"? I mean, if Van Halen were touring, and it was only Alex Van Halen and Michael Anthony, along with some guns-for-hire, would anyone care?

[/quote]That's funny. I was talking to a Rocker friend at work about this so-called Cars reunion and I used the exact same analogy. [:p]

Well, I think we should go into this with an "open mind" as I trust Elliot Easton and Greg Hawkes wouldnt be doing this if they didnt feel it was going to work out, as they were integral parts of the Cars sound.. I am not familar with Todd Rundgren at all, except for "Bang on The Drum"...Sure, I wish Ric Ocasek would change his mind and have a true Cars reunion, but there's nothing we can do about it-LOL!!

Yeah and Jefferson Starship rules too!
For all we know, Easton and Hawkes are just doing it for the money or because they miss the old days. Not compelling enough reasons I'm afraid.
Next, Ringo will be hiring three side men and touring as The New Beatles.

Yeah, it's got nothing to do with Todd Rundgren...I am VERY familiar with him.
But this just seems like an attempt to cash in on the memory of a group that no longer exists. And even Todd admits that it's a nice steady gig for a year or so.
I don't care who they get to front it...without Ben Orr and Ric Ocasek it's not The Cars.

I gotta agree. Hell, Zeppelin broke up for good after losing a drummer. Wish The Who had followed suit!
But while I think this Cars reunion is a weak idea, I gotta say I can't think of a better person to fill in for Ocasek than Rundgren. Not a huge Rundgren fan but he's done some interesting stuff...isn't even that far away in terms of looks and vocal style.
Still though..."Idaho State Fair 2007! LIIIIVE!!! The Caaaarrs (featuringtoddrundgren)with special guests Styyyyx (featuringtheothershawbrother)!!!! BE THERE-AIR-air-air....

Here's an idea: Let's put together Ted Nugent on guitar, Robert Plant on vocals, Geddy Lee on bass, and Phil Rudd on drums and call it the new Led Zeppelin. Sure, it just might be a great band, but calling it the new (insert any name here) is misleading and just plain wrong. When Rage Against the Machine replaced their lead singer/shouter with the guy from Soundgarden, they wisely renamed the group, respecting their old group and allowing the new group to survive on its own merits, and Velvet Revolver falls in this too. How stupid would it have been for Velvet Revolver be named the new Guns 'N' Roses? I understand wanting to make a paycheck, but the remaining members of the Cars should have come up with something else.

Todd's getting up there age-wise. He'll probably get the lyrics mixed up and start sing Hello....Hello It's Me Again or Can We Still Be My Best Friend's Girlfriend. It could be a mess.

And let's not forget David Robinson who was not only drummer but also responsible for a lot of the artwork and visuals of the band. It was Robinson who approached Alberto Vargas to do the Candy-O cover.
So basically you're talking about a band without 3 of it's most important members. It's not even a question- no thanks.

There's nothing better then seeing a first poster come in and tell us how things are here...hey Richard...
1. read more history then what's on the first page or
2. Do a search
3. Then post
most of us are incredibly familiar with the sham that is Todd Rundgren, and I'd rather have my toenails pulled out then have to endure that poseur piece of shit fronting a once great name...with fucking Kasim Sultan on bass no less...are you familiar with him?
Another flaccid prancemaster...
If you'd like me to, I'll write 1000 words or so on his history, then can I make my negative judgement...please????
oh, and welcome aboard...ugh...
