Have you ever just got yourself in a sort of rut, going back to the same impossibly sad song over and over? You know you should try to break free of the cycle and put on something sunnier, but you just won't let yourself? It keeps drawing you in, like chocolate.

I've been listening to a borrowed copy of the latest Death Cab for Cutie cd ('plans') and I can't stop going back to "Summer Skin" and "Brothers on a hotel bed". They strike me as infintely sad and I look at pictures of freinds/family members as I listen to them and it's just putting a lump in my throat over and over. STOP bpdp STOP!!!

Don't worry - - it's a happy kind of sad. But have you ever done this to yourself?

There are a couple of sad songs that I could listen to two or three times in one sitting: One of them is "Single Bed" by Sharan Q and the other is "Ashita Ga Tsuki" ("I Love Tomorrow") by Mitsuko Horie. They're both in Japanese and I don't understand a word of what they're saying, but the tone is bitter-sweet.

I sometimes do this. I do it with sad songs and I do it with angry songs. It's therapeutic, somehow.

BTW, Deathcab for Cutie is a band I recently "discovered." Good stuff.

"La Verite" by Classix Nouveaux. Whenever a serious relationship has ended (all 3 of them, all ended with her leaving me for someone else) this song is my theme. They always say they want to remain friends which I attempt to agree to. Hense the lyric "Sometimes I wonder why your choose not to see / I'll just be a friend if that's the only role that's free" punches me in the gut every time I hear it, yet I listen to it over and over.

(A little personal admission here, I just had to listen to this song on repeat right after Haloween)

Im all about self torture and self destruction. I do this a lot.

Or a song associated with a memory of someone long gone...I will listen to over and over.

Im so pathetic most (all) of the time.

I bought this album a few weeks ago and I don't bother to listen to those songs. Actually I have on repeat Soul Meets Body, more sexciting![:D]
