New Wave Outpost Forum

Reading several of the threads about influences of the neo-NW/Next wave genre has gotten me thinking: Those of you who are very into these bands--What classic NW song would you like to see a Next Wave cover? I have to admit I don't have much in this genre (as Blir can attest by my scores on his NTT 50). I do have the first CD by the Bravery and have thought that they could do a fine cover of Duran's Planet Earth. I've been listening to Mono in VCF a lot since Xmas--I'd like to hear their take on Bauhaus' She's In Parties.

Interested in your opinion. Heck anything can beat No Doubt's It's my Life......[xx(]

I'm dying for British Sea Power to cover some Echo & the Bunnymen. The nature of their lyrics and riffs are both a perfect fit. Any songs would do, but especially those off Ocean Rain like Seven Seas, Ocean Rain, or Silver.

I really don't buy the stuff like how influenced Interpol was by Joy Division or Radio 4 by Gang of Four. The former would make it seem like poser BS and the latter would just plain suck at it IMHO.

We all know the popular 80's song by Kylie Minogue(SAW)production, "Hand on your heart". Recently it has been covered by Jose Gonzales and I couldn't recognize it all the way until the refrain. It is excellent and it has taken a whole new direction.

And Blir, wait a minute, you mean "The Land Beyond" by BSP ISN'T already a song from the "Ocean Rain" album? [8D] Don't get me wrong, I love those guys. Same could be said of "Modern Nocturne" by my local boys Mono in VCF (urgh, they have to change that name).

What I'd like to hear:
"Radar Love" by Franz Ferdinand. When I saw them last fall they stretched out the bass intro to "Evil and a Heathen" for a long time and it sounded like they were going to segue right into the Golden Earring classic.
Diana Ross's "Upside Down" by FF or Bloc Party.

You have GOT to turn us on to more of their material as soon as they're released. They came up on my Pod again a couple of days ago - they've really got some potential IMHO. A great, driving sound.

According to their website, www.monoinvcf.com, they're recording their first full-length album this summer . . . but they lost their lead singer this week due to "creative differences," so it might be awhile.

Too bad about losing their lead singer...I listen to their ep all the time..Ultra Love is a great song

Noctorum (featuring Marty Wilson Piper of The Church on guitars and vocals) does a superb cover of Buffalo Springfield's Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing.

I know it is not a new wave priginal, but since MWP of The Church does it with his side project, thought it was worth a mention, since it is so gorgeously done.

Many of the OMD covers done on the 'Pretending To See The Future' tribute CD to OMD are done exceptionally well, mostly by bands like Simpatico, Acid House Kings, Majestic, Brittle Stars, etc.....a very nicely done tribute CD.
