I live by that wierd motto "Once great always great" and I dutifully pick up new albums by artists whose work I've enjoyed in the past. Of course I had to stop short with Sting after the first few solo albums. Just could'nt watch that happen to a guy.

Just wondering if anyone out there continues to buy albums from the likes of Depeche Mode, The Cure etc. long after the "glory days" are over? Or do you see it as one big continuing saga? Most people I know, for example, stopped buying Cure records after 1992's "Wish".

Oh, I definitely follow that motto. If I buy an album and love it, I will keep buying new or back catalog albums by that artist until I get a stinker.

Lately, resources like AMG have helped me avoid some of the back catalog stinkers.

It depends, really. Since I dislike what passes for top 40 this past decade, any band that alters their sound to fit into top 40, I will avoid buying that cd.
An example is Scritti Politti. In 1999, I was excited when I read that "Anomie and Bonhomie"
