I've always been more of a fan of Wire Train -- all the way thru their last 1992 album No Soul No Strain, but Translator had some fantastic songs ("Un-Alone" is stellar).

Love'em both, saw them both at Hunt's In Burlington, VT back in about 1984....both were great. Translator had Winter Hours open for them, another superb band.

First 2 Wire Trains are perfect IMO. Translator, IMO, put out more total quality releases over their span of time. Love the first 3 the most, especially the S/T one with the flowery front cover, every song is a gem!! Nice guys to boot, we chatted with them prior to their show.

That first Wire Train is an 80s masterpiece - as a single work goes, it is right up there with Translator's S/T 3rd release

Lyrically, I find "Come with me" by Translator to be one of the perfect pop songs.

"There is a door
that I must get through
and it leads to the heart of you"

then...

"Come with me
take my hand
through the milk and honey
of a broken promised land
side by side
don't say no
time will tell its secret
everywhere we go"

I don't think the 2 bands are comparable, Translator has a more gentle sound than Wire Train. My favorites are Gravity,Come With Me, Another American Night,Un-Alone ...I have only one album: Everywhere That We Were, The Best Of. On the other hand, Wire Train has the smashing Hit Chamber Of Hellos and quite a number of good songs, Skills Of Summer, God On Our Side, She Comes On, Last Perfect Thing, I'll Do You, Love,Love etc I have 3 copies of Last Perfect Thing, A Retrospective plus the albums In A Chamber/Between Two Worlds 2CD's and No Soul No Strain. One of these days, I will complete the collection with the S/t and Ten Women. Obviously, I go for Wire Train![;)]

I like them both equally...couldn't pick one favorite over the other.

One of the first videos I downloaded for my video iPod was "Last Perfect Thing" by Wire Train.

Translator! I love Un-Alone.....I remember I found the video interesting.....there was a rooster in the video....hmmm that was a long long time ago but that stands out.[:D]

Since I really was not that familiar with Wire Train I went to do some research and give them a listen. I quite like them too...what I have heard so far. They sound a bit like Translator to me.

I say both are good, it would have to be a coin flip.
