I was recently exposed to this band and know nothing about them. Can someone fill me and the rest of us here on the NWO about them?

Yeah I got me some but I would like some background on them. I like what I heard so far. I love Aussie New Wave!

I can remember them from the time I was an Aussie.
But they've got very little/nothing to do with the 'Aussie new Wave'.
They were a plain Rock band.

The term New Wave is loose around here...I agree they are Rock rather than New Wave.

Okay, so what do we want to know that isn't revealed at allmusic? They were (usually) a sextet from Victoria, fronted by the impressively-unintelligible vocal stylings of James Reyne. They were known as the Aussie Beach Boys (for reasons that continue to elude me). They had a string of hits down under -- most notably "Reckless," "The Boys Light Up," "Errol," "Things Don't Seem," "Beautiful People," "Shutdown," and what I think is their best song, "Downhearted." They sold nothing in the U.S. They broke up around 1985, after which Reyne went solo. I don't own any of Reyne's solo stuff, and I'm not really familiar with it.

We got off to a bad start....I love Aussie rock/new wave and was suprised these guys passed me by. I like your name because I was somebody but at sometime....never managed somewhere. Somewhere could be anywhere very post modern. WORD!

It's a Platinum Blonde song. Not to say that they were ever my favorites, but it's more my own way of railing against the Home Theater F*rum first-name democracies in this, Al Gore's internet. What more info does anybody need to know about me beyond the fact that I'm somebody who lives somewhere?

James Reyne's solo stuff is fantastic. I got into it by accident - found a used copy of his 2nd (and final) U.S. release "Any Day Above Ground"* in the discount bin, popped it in the listening station, heard 5 seconds of the first track "Some People" and bought it. I have all his solo stuff now and a few of the Aussie Crawl discs. His website is http://www.jamesreyne.com/home.php. Anyway, a lot of his solo stuff is out of print but is worth seeking out.

*The album was actually called "Electric Digger Dandy" in Australia, which was a parody of a Hendrix album with a nearly identical title except that the 2nd word started with N, not D. I think they thought the U.S. crowd wouldn't get it.
