"The Jet Set" (single version) mystery?

Hello everyone!

I just picked up 'Forever Young & Other Hits'
I had bought this CD in hopes to find that "The Jet Set" was the single version and not the version included on the Forever Young album, I guess in other words the "album version of the song".

The single version runs apx. 3:39 and includes the incredibly catchy outro "let's go to the moon", do you guys know what I am talking about? Does anyone here know if this version appears on CD anywhere? all I can ever seem to find is the LP version and it's not exactly what I am looking for. Also the same goes for "Big In Japan" it's the LP version and not the single version, I can do without the annoying intro. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks, Justin/DevoManiac101

I'm pretty sure both single versions are on the earlier collections The Singles Collection and First Harvest 1984-92, however I seem to recall First Harvest featuring tampered mixes of the originals. Any of our top AV fans (Avcool4u?) know?

I thought all of the mixes on The Singles Collection were new to that release.

"Forever Young and other hits" are culled directly from the 3 original albums, no single versions. "The Singles Collection" features 2 different versions of 4 songs; some then-new mixes, some original 12" mixes and some original album versions. "The First Harvest" does contain the original single/video version of "Big In Japan". Many of the songs on that release were remixed, though not to an unlistenable degree. Some are just mildly altered making them pleasant alternatives. Besides, it's the only place to get the original, rare 7" remix of "Sensations", which is much better than the LP version. The version of "Jet Set" on this CD does have the "Let's go to the moon" bit, and is similar to the 7" version with the exception of being a bit remixed. It's the closest you're gonna get to that version on CD, at least to my knowledge.

The Jet Set is an awesome song!
I saw this topic and had to do some research.
I pulled out my 45 for The Jet Set. The time on the label says that version is 3:50. I'll have to break out the turntable this weekend and give it a listen.

The CD "First Harvest 1984 - 92" has a single version on it, and the time is 3:40. I can asure you that this version is very different from the Album version. It does include the outro chorus you're looking for.
Indeed, the version on First Harvest are different from the original versions. I can note specific differences in "Sounds Like A Melody", "A Victory Of Love" and "Lassie Come Home"
