Remaking The Big Chill

I remember avoiding this movie when it came out because it seemed to be a film about old people who like boring music. I got news for ya, kids, we ARE those people now! So I finally saw this flick (Anything with William Hurt in it must be worth seeing right? Mmmmm...) and am inspired to rewrite it.

What songs do you think are detremental to be included in the soundtrack? I was thinking (regardless of how I personally feel about said songs--I want this film to appeal to all gen Xers)
Pass the Dutchie--in order to have a scene where they all scream along--"THIS GENERATION RULES THE NATION!"
Total Eclipse of the Heart---I would do it as cheesy as possible and just when it can't get any cheesier I'll have another character interrupt the cheesiness by abrubtly changing the record to the worst hair metal song I can think of...
Putting on the Ritz---Taco. I don't know why I just pictured this one.

Seriously, the last thing I want to see is a movie with 3 or 4 people pissing and moaning about their mistakes and potential futures, and their alternative ways of baby making. If I wanted to see that, I'd go to a family reunion.[:D]

If you just have to do this, don't use Taco's "Puttin' on the ritz", use Taco's "Livin' in my dreamworld". It's not as well known, but more appropriate for a film about some very neurotic folks.

Using the less popular but better crafted songs of the 80's would be a good choice for more intimate scenes, and using the "popular/Lame" 80's hits for more crowded scenes would be a subtle bite at the top 40 crap fed to use during the 80's.

I doubt I'll ever actually get around to this project anyway. I've got a dozen other screenplay ideas that have yet to see the light of day. This one was merely a thought to entertain. I do see your point. I'm not so sure I want to write about it. I'd rather write "Destination Unknown" right now, a true story of an overly drug induced waitstaff.

If you want a screenplay that has so many twists and turns that it'll give you whiplash, follow my family around for a couple of weeks. It'll have everything: Religious zealots, hookers, stalkers, idiots, geeks and weirdos, shit on walls, barbells, misadventures with firearms, lawsuits, child molesters, burning buildings, girls with meat cleavers, Hutter bleeding, heart attacks while "doing it" with the hired help, explaining said situation to the missus, cute widdle kitty cats with hygiene issues, everything! You wouldn't even have to throw in the kitchen sink.

Well I think I got my answer here---this is a project not worth doing. I shall move on if I can't even intrest you guys...(plenty of other ideas to contemplate...)
