Ok everyone, I'm again soliciting all your opinions: good, bad or inbetween about the following "C" artists found in my recently re-discovered Trouser Press Record Guides:

Coolies
Chant
Chills
Chemical People
Cleaners from Venus

Thanks for imparting your vast wisdom to a lowly acolyte..[:D]

The Chills are an awesome New Zealand pop band. There is a best of comp called Heavenly Pop Hits that is a fine starting point.
I can't really describe them any better than their entry on trouserpress.com, but if you like well-crafted pop songs about love and death, you will like the Chills.

Cleaners From Venus

Get Giles Smith's book "Lost in Music" which talks in detail about his time in the band. A fascinating read.

<br>Here's a song by The Chant from their only CD, "Two Car Mirage", the song is called "Change". They remind me of The Rave-Ups, or maybe a rootsier R.E.M.

If you like this one I'll upload another from the CD.[/quote]
That was great! Once again, a band I never heard of, putting out great music 20 years ago. Thanks much.

Otters, thanks for the info--I love Kiwipop---I'll start looking for the comp you mention

ElectricLash--THANK YOU so much. I agree with your description--a more "jangly" Rave-ups. Quite good! I appreciate your enlightening me![:)]

The Coolies are a trip. Musically, they're all over the place. I have 2 lp's by them. The first one is called Dig? and it's all covers of Simon and Garfunkel songs, except for one aong, which is a cover of Paul Anka's "Having My Baby". I remember at the time reading an interview where they asked them why do an Anka song on an otherwise all Simon and Garfunkel cover album, and they simply said because it was written by a guy named Paul. [:D]

The second one is called Doug and it's a rock opera about a skinhead who kills a transvestite cook, gets rich selling off the victim's recipes, becomes a paranoid drug addict, and ends up right back in the gutter. Highly recommended.

Since you've reminded me of these guys, I decided to track down the lp's on cd and found this:

What a deal! [8D]
