Great bands with a special feel to it. A band I don't know about is Oingo Boingo and the Bush Tetra's. Are they worth getting in to (afterwards) ?
Another artist I would like to bring in here is Lora Logic, former member of X Ray Specs. I'm interested in that double cd she brought out some time ago. I have to LP's of her: essential Logic and ...forgot the other one. To late to look it up as its after bar's closing time by now. [|)]

I think Talking Heads "Remain In Light" fits pretty neatly into this catagory...The Clash didn't do to bad of a job at it either!

bands like the jam fall into this category (sometimes) - the b-side of "town called malice" features "precious", weller's slightly borrowed version of "pigbag"...

the redskins were pretty funky AND angry too...[:(!]

I completely was blown of my feet by a live gig from Magazine.
Real punk funk live. Agressive, dramatic and impossible to stand still. They managed to be melancgolic at the same time. SO much feeling was produced their. Chilling.

Really sorry I missed this post earlier - - this is one of my favorite genres. You guys mentioned most of the great ones already.

If you're able, check out the song "Too Many Creeps" by Bush Tetras - has everything you're looking for, believe me. It was out on 99 records (home of ESG and Liquid Liquid). I have it as a 45; they did an ep later but I don't think they ever did a proper album.

Josef K hasn't been mentioned yet, probably just a giddy oversight, but if you haven't heard any of their material it's certainly right up your alley. Same with Delta 5, who were comrades of Gang of 4 (with female vocal).

"Coup" by 23 Skidoo is a record I've read alot of great things about but sadly never come across...will show up in the middle of some used vinyl shop someday I'm sure.

Bush Tetra's I don't have anyything from [:I] Except probably one song on cassette.
Delta 5 I only have one 45 single.
Josef K I heard so much about...don't have it. Which record is best to get to start of with ?

And I doubt it if you'll find such brilliant records/cd's from 23 Skidoo in the used vinyl shop. Especially not once the Chemical Brothers were shopping there before. [:0] At eBay you should be able to get it.

Now I'm sure I'll have to do it !! I'm going to find that 3 orc4 hours FABULOUS 99 records radioprogramme and the P/Funk movement on the internet. May be the Bush Tetra's are on that programme too.

i've been listening to some excellent APB recently too!
the trouble is, there was a lot of good music out then - it's taking this long to listen to it all properly..![:D]

The APB album goutroy mentioned IS a classic. A few of my favorites on that one are "Summer Love", "Shoot you Down" and "Talk to Me"... one of those bands that I think would appeal to alot of people if they had a chance to hear.

Funny you guys mentioned the Minutemen earlier in the thread. To me, they're always invariably lumped in with American hardcore groups like Husker Du but they did often have a funky sound to some of their songs.....what if those songs could have been relesed as 45's on say Factory Records in '81, I wonder if they could be viewed as the funky post-punk alot of the groups we're discussing are. Hmmm.....

Coen, I only have a couple 45's by them, on the Postcard label (home of Orange Juice and others). They did have an early 80's album but I've never come across it. Delta 5's lp "See the Whirl" is a good example of the funk-influenced post punk of the early 80's. Somewhere on one of the other threads someone mentioned a fairly recent Delta 5 release, probably some kind of compilation which is probably worth seeking out.

Oh, an album I love I wonder if any of you know is the "Wanna Buy a Bridge?" compilation lp that came out on Rough Trade in the very early 80's. Certainly had alot of funky post punk on it as well - grab it if you ever see it.

May be I've asked before, but where does APB stands for again ?

Delta 5 I have a 45 of one, but I can't play 45 on my turntable for some time. I read on this forum, that Delta 5 had a compilation out. So that makes it easier to 'handle'.

My last post was a little unclear - - I was mentioning that I only have a couple 45's on Postcard by Josef K - - Delta 5 had the lp and the new comp.
I think we'll start seeing more and more releases by these funk-punk type bands as there are a fair amount of similar groups coming out now, as sort of a throw-back. Erase Errata, the Liars debut lp, the Rapture and others.....

APB is a term used by law enforcement, standing for "All Points Bulletin".

I think I'd include the american group from Anthens, Georgia named Pylon in this category as well. They had PiL-sounding guitar with a fairly prominent bass.
