"New Wave" forever

I married a new wave man, and it is great knowing that we both have the same point of reference. He listens to more hard rock in addition to new wave, but we both grew up listening to KROQ, seeing early MTV, and dressing new wave. When we got married, we even had two of a lot of the same albums and cassettes. Even with being fans of the same musical genre, there were still some differences-I took him to his first Replacements concert, and he liked grunge when it came out, while I disliked it at the time(although now I like some of it).

My boyfriend was in a new wave/glam band in the 1980s (they sounded like Japan/New York Dolls) and we're both extremely open-minded to ALL kinds of music.

What I have, he doesn't.

What he has, I don't.

So we're constantly turning each other on to different music.

My wife's favorite artists are Bon Jovi, Shania Twain and Toby Keith. About the only thing we can both listen too in the same room is classic rock and Maroon 5. In spite of this, we've been happily married for nearly 15 years and dated for 3 years before that.

So while it would be nice if we had more similar tastes in music, I don't think it really makes much of a difference in the grand scheme of things. As long as you've got great sex and good communication, the rest is just fluff! [:D]

As desperate as I was in the 80s, I vowed not to marry anyone who wasn't a Cure fan. I met Mr. Cure Fan and married him. He still likes 80s alternative music but his taste changed over time. Nowadays he's more into Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson. The new John Prine CD he just got is driving me nuts. [xx(]

If you consider Cher to be New Wave, then yes, I have settled down with a new wave fan. But, if you consider Cher to be the music they play in Hell's elevators, like me...you have not settled down with a new wave fan.

My husband likes NW but is not into it as much as I am...I'd say we both agree on what we don't like (country music, Cher, cheesy 80's hair bands) and that works for us!

Music is not important at all to my wife. She might by 1 classical CD a year. I borrowed a friend's XM for a while, she didn't even listen to it. However, my 7 year old son is developing a taste for new wave. Sure, he'll reject it in a few years, but for now, it's great.

I met my husband at Hitsville (Passaic) in '81. He was in a band and we went to all the area clubs. We were both into New Wave. I still love NW the best. He's more versatile.
