Modern Rock Idol

Postby ghosty » Mon Mar 06, 2006 7:09 am

Taking my cue from the numerous polls here on the NWOutpost, I started "Modern Rock Idol" on my show last week. Listeners voted for the contestants:

Sonic Youth
They Might Be Giants
Radiohead
The Clash
The Cure
The Smiths
The Flaming Lips
Siouxsie And The Banshees
The Cars

This coming Saturday night they'll be calling in again and voting on them and whittling the list down to 4. The following week down to 2 and then finally the winning band will get a full 30 minutes of uninterrupted music on my show.

Well, Sonic Youth did'nt make it (despite my playing "Bone").

The four who move on to the next round are:
The Smiths
Siouxsie And The Banshees
The Cure
They Might Be Giants

Oh well. Guess I won't be making the mistake of taking your audience seriously anymore. They Might Be Giants? I'm surprised Taco didn't make the final four too. Sad.

Are'nt the results eerily similar to several polls on here though? I'm in shock about The Clash most of all. They ALL got votes but the final four just recieved more.
Radiohead and The Flaming Lips got the least votes, probably because they're thought of as 90's bands and it's trendy to write off the 90's.
They Might Be Giants? Well....we're sorta close to Hoboken so...

Just had round 2 last night: The Cure and They Might Be Giants fell to the power and majesty of Siouxsie and The Smiths. Next week those two will go head to head and I'm predicting Siouxsie will win it all (but I've been wrong about everything in this competition).
