Name That Tune: Signature KROQ Classics!

In the immortal words of Hal Fishman, "From the desert to the sea to all of Southern California [and beyond], a good evening!" This is an homage to the single most influential force in my teen years. No, not my libido....KROQ!!! Specifically a Name That Tune game containing signature KROQ songs that many Southlanders and others will surely recognize, mostly from the earlier era.

The game consists of guessing 25 song clips, starting with the more recognizable and ending with one that many of us started our weekend nights with (hint hint). The game is on a 100 points basis - 2 for each artist, 2 for each title. There are 2 seconds of silence between clips. Download your response form below and email it to me for tabulation when you're finished (my email address is on the form). Make sure to put your forum screen names on your answers so I know who you are. I will send the Answer Sheet to everyone who sends me their responses . <B>Please DO NOT post your responses here![/b]

While we're on the KROQ thing I have to say my Username is an homage to Chuck Randall "Randall on the Roq" -THE FUNNIEST MOST SACASTIC Goddamned DJ EVER. I had the best times listening to that guy afternoons on 106.7.

Chuck, 25 years later and I still remember your show and wonder where you went. YES, you were that good.

I cannot fathom why I never searched for any of this stuff myself. It just never ocurred. Glad to see Chuck went on to better things. He was sorely missed on my radio.

On another note...I was walking through Pasadena one day in the mid 80's and could hear music coming from a hall or some such building. As I got closer I recognized the song as Zero Hour from The Plimsouls and it was live. They were inside the building rehearsing for something. I found a door ajar and sat by it listening to my own private concert. I remember feeling the whole time as if I'd found buried treasure.

Being on the east coast, and never having experienced KROQ myself, this game is throwing me for a loop! I've only identified seven songs myself, and a few of them are album tracks, which our new wave station, WLIR, never played (along with some local bands, I'm sure), so I can understand why those who have experienced KROQ hold it in such high reverence. Good job, Blir!

Being an East Coaster myself I might find this rather difficult, but new wave obscurities are something I adore so I shall see how I do on this.

Thanks for giving it a go Skinny and Devo. They weren't obviously just played on KROQ, but like Skinny said, there's some album tracks there. I don't I was really aware of the idea of the single in the early KROQ days. They played what they liked, and if it happened to be an album or import track, we didn't know it because it got into the rotation. Then sometimes if we looked for, we couldn't find it anywhere!

yes, DVD (finally)... and having to buy music in multiple formats (8-track, albums, cassettes, cd)... and then came NAPSTER!

damn, look at all the free music -- payback for 20 years of over charging the public.
~ not that I've ever downloaded any music, I wouldn't think of it -- that would be against the law and wrong.
