The Puppets

I love the track "Way Of Life" by this group. It's also the only song I can find by them. Did they release an EP or just this single?

The Puppets were on Quality records, in most cases anything released on that label was released as a 12" single only, the label was out of Canada.

Devo is right...I've only ever come across the 12" on Quality Records.

Thanks for the replies guys. Unfortunately, you confirmed my fear.

THERE IS NO MORE PUPPETS!

Shaun Brighton confirmed The Puppets were a one-off. Nervus Rex were the ones with the album.

I like Nervus Rex, but side by side, I prefer the darker edge found in "Way of Life". What a shame there isn't more to enjoy from The Puppets or Nervus Rex.

Hey SomebodySomewhere, thanks for the download. I just don't understand why this hasn't yet turned up on a compilation. I think, it was on the very first volume of "Hardest Hits" but was taken off due to some licensing problem. This track was big on New York radio's 92KTU and was mixed in a lot of the famous "Paco Super Mixes". I really thought that maybe somehow and someway that Hi-bias Records would have released it on their grand Retro/Rare and Remixed compilations. Since "Way of Life" was from a Canadian record label it doesn't seem that it would be a problem for Hi-Bias to release it as they are a Canadian label also. Maybe Alex can give us more information concerning this.

Anyway, thanks for the download. I love it!!!

I didn't get into Nervus Rex until a few years ago when I found their album at the Salvation Army for .50 cents. (Some guy named Neil Cicione unloaded a bunch of new wave records - I bought 'em all, even though he wrote his name on every single one. Bastard!) I've probably listened to it a dozen times since then. "There She Goes"... "Don't Look"... "Spies"... "The God Sheila"... their twisted cover of "Venus." I think the songs were good enough to withstand "Commander" Chapman's questionable production. And the jacket artwork is new wavelicious.

"Way of Life" has a better hook and gets away from Talking Heads' shadow, but the lyrics do nothing for me. (Never mind the one line I could never figure out. "They said romance just wasn't mwah mwah mwah fit behind now." Huh?)

Jeffrey, I believe the version I posted was the one that was on the original pressing of that CD. The 12" of course has 3 mixes. The 4 minute radio edit is my preference. Short, sweet and to the point.
