Thoughts on three songs

Black Stations - Martha & The Muffins

This song got a decent amount of airplay on WLIR, I remember. Not a bad tune, a bit dated now, but this is coming from someone whose favorite Martha and the Muffins tune is "Suburban Dream". [:)]

Great Southern Lands - Icehouse

I'm not too familiar with these guys (I know, a travesty!). I probably heard the song, but don't recognize it by its title.

Get Started, Start a Fire - Graham Parker

This song got some airplay on WLIR, but not as much as the M & M tune did. I like Graham Parker a lot, but this song was on the "Mona Lisa's Sister" album which I always felt was a step-down from the albums he released up to that point (and he wouldn't be on the top of his game again until 2001's "Deepcut to Nowhere"). That doesn't mean he's no less brilliant, I just prefer those other albums more.

Hey glokstadt, sorry I don't have an extended version.But tiger_mn does mention in the above post that MSK Remember posted 2 versions in his compilations.
If you don't have any luck with those I'll try to find one for you [:)]

1. IMO, Martha & The Muffins have only one good song: Echo Beach, quite nice and it goes like this

I know it's out of fashion
And a trifle uncool
But I can't help it
I'm a romantic fool
It's a habit of mine
To watch the sun go down
On Echo beach, I watch the sun go down

I guess they have a good album: Metro Music which includes in addition to Echo Beach, Paint By Number Heart and Indecision . They remind me of Romeo Void less the power of songs like Girl In Trouble and Never Say Never. As far as Black Stations is concerned, that song is so bad, that I'm thinking of deleting it from my library.

2. Icehouse is another story, they have quite a number of good songs and they can be considered as a new wave stalwart. IMO, their best songs are:
1. Great Southern Land
2. No Promises
3. Crazy
4. Electric Blue. ( Crazy and Electric Blue sound a lot more commercial than the first two but they were major hits of the band , therefore with objectivity, they deserve to be ranked in the top 5)
Then comes a string of cute songs that I like particularly.
5. Hey Little Girl ( I love that song)
6. Street Café
7. Paradise
8. Angel Street
9. Cross The Border
10. Man Of Colours
11. Stay Close Tonight
12. Can't Help Myself
13. Touch The Fire
14. We Can Get Together
15. Walls
16. Sister
17. Jimmy Dean
18. Love In Motion etc

One of the best buy that I would recommend is the 3 CD Box Set, The Singles, A Sides and Selected B Sides.
In case U can't find it, then get the 89 album Great Southern Land or the album Masterfile which include a number of the songs that I have mentioned, plus the album Man Of Colours.

3. Graham who? I only listen to New Wave and Modern Rock.

"Great Southern Lands" isn't that difficult to come by. It's the title track of their quasi-Best Of compilation which I have and have seen in music stores.
