The best drum [b]programmer[/b] is either [b]Mike Paradinas[/b] of U-Ziq (well he IS U-Ziq)...or [b]Richard D. James[/b] of Aphex Twin...

My FAVORITE real drummer is [b]Steve Jansen[/b] of Japan, Dolphin Brothers, Rain Tree Crow, David Sylvian etc.....

Not New wave but Def Leppard's drummer still plays the drum despite losing his left arm in an accident. Still does the rolling.

Jet Black from The Stranglers hasn't "played" drums on an album since the late 80's. He uses drum machines which I assume he programs himself, or more likely hires some kid to do it for him.

Unfortunately, James Brown didn't pass on a penny of the royalties from the music that the geniuses around him created. Mr. Stubblefield should have made a couple of million just from the massive number of songs that smapled "Funky Drummer" in the late 80s and early 90s.

When I used to work for NAMM, one of our exhibitors had Mr. Stubblefield appear at their booth to sign autographs and talk with fans. Unfortunately, Slash and some other dildo were appearing just around the corner and Mr. Stubblefield sat there all alone. I was very lucky to spend about an hour talking with him about his career and I'm very happy I had the chance to personally thank him for his contribution to music. An extremely humble and genuine man. For some odd reason, all of the former James Brown band members I have met have been extremely generous with their time. I've been lucky enough to meet Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley, and the nicest musician I have ever met, Bootsy Collins.

Sorry to go off tangent, but that seems to be my forté.

Roger Troutman was the same way, extremely humble and down to earth. A lot of the P-Funk guys are very cool in person.

Back on topic: Phil Rudd of AC/DC should get a mention. Solid, deceptively simple beats that do just what they're supposed to do, keeping the engine running on track.
