No, I stopped going to WM many years ago. I'd rather shop at Mom -n- Pop stores, or Target. Sure, maybe the prices are more at Mom -n- Pop stores, but I'd rather support local businesses and thus help my local economy. I have to admit, Target is great, too. It's cleaner, brighter, has wider aisles, & a more thoughtful layout.

It used to be fun to "people watch" at WM, but then it jut got sad. I intensely dislike how WM plays up their "All-American, patriotic" image, but much of what they sell is cheap crap from China. Low-quality stuff that falls apart after a while.
I can understand and admire the capitalist model of competition affecting prices--usually resulting in lower prices--but WM's model is too crass, too gouging, too unhealthy.
And have you ever noticed that inside of a WM is like a casino ? Seriously--the cash registers sound like slot machines, there are no windows, and I wouldn't doubt that they do something to the oxygen level to affect the shoppers. (OK, I am just joking about that last one. [i]Or am I ???[/i][}:)]

And yes, it does make a difference.

A Super Walmart opened about 5 miles from my house 10 or so years ago. They had some people with full carts doing their grocery shopping and others just there to pick up one or two items. Walmart couldn't figure out how to run the check out stands for both types of shoppers. They'd have 1 "express lane" with 20 people in it, and 4 lanes for everybody else. This wasn't a once or twice thing, it was a regular occurrence.

The invention of self check-out machines as changed this dynamic, but who wants to patronize a store that is so hell-bent on not providing service?

There's a new Super Walmart about 1 1/2 miles from home. I try not to go there, but some times it's just too damn convenient.

At the risk of being unpopular I shop at Walmart on a weekly basis and quite like it. We don't have Target in Canada unfortunately.

We have two Targets in our city, the one in the more affluent burbs is called Tarjay, while the one downtown is often referred to as Targhetto.

Note: this is not intended as any sort of ethnic/social slur. Just something I've observed.

I just don't get all the fuss. I don my Nike's and my housekeeper Maria and I hop into one of my SUV's and head down to the Super Walmart (which is as nice if not nicer than Target across the street). I usually stock up on the water bottles (5 cases or so - Heck, $3.88 for a case of 20 ounce water bottles- who cares if it's Chinese water)but everything there is so cheap, I try to spend my money wisely. If my local mom & pop (Is there even one?) could do it better and cheaper I'd gladly support them too. I'd even buy my Lee Greenwood CD's from them.

That's actually pretty big of you to do this yourself. I usually just lounge by the side of my giant pool that's sculpted into the shape of a middle finger and send Maria to the store by herself while Jean Piere Gonzales, my Haitain-Dominican spritzer boy, keeps me cool with a constant supply of moist towelettes. One tip - try the 8oz bottles. There's a lot more plastic in 'em per water content, but I can suck one down before it gets warm and JP is always there to grab me another cold one.

As for shopping at Walmart... sure, why not? Why would I go somewhere else where the price is doubled? It's not like I'm rich. Yeah, I understand about all the ma and pop business but I have to shop where I can afford. I remember shopping for art supplies at Ben Franklin when I was growing up and I totally loved going there-- it was like a toy store to me. Well that building has turned into several other businesses since BF went OOB... I'm sure because of WM. But let's face it, WM cannot be stopped... it's time to just give in.[}:)][}:)][}:)]
